Gundy

I’m not surprised he’s being fired based on how the season is going, but I’m kind of surprised they are doing it now
What? If you're gonna fire him, it makes no sense to wait until December. Gotta do it ASAP and get out in front of things as much as possible.

That said, it sounds like OSU is broke and their Athletic Dept is a dumpster fire, so whomever they get, he's probably gonna be pretty much an unknown.

Guess its up to him, with $15 million in the buyout, and he has made plenty of money in the past, nice time to step into early retirement if he wants or take another job if he chooses.
If I were looking for a coach today I would think not twice, but three or four times before hiring Gundy. He has always been a rebel, not caring if he isn't politically correct. But lately he just seems like he doesn't care. A high dollar coach that is just putting in time and collecting a paycheck is a disaster for a program trying to get back on their feet.

UNC could have used this advice.

Gundy is 100% in that stage of life/his career where the game has passed him by.

His lack of political correctness/odd behavior is about the 10th thing on the list of reasons he won't get another major coaching job.

Agree. I so badly want to make a comment, but this thread is not in the cave and I don't want to get suspended again.

I'm just saying he's lost it from a football sense so badly that his politics are irrelevant. Regardless of how popular or unpopular his takes are, his disdain for and refusal to cooperate with NIL and the portal has sunk him in and of itself.

So it didn't quite work at UNC, maybe it will this time.

Matt Campbell somehow answers yet another question with an even more Matt Campbell answer than any question he's ever Matt Campbell'd before. I truly am at a loss to explain how he does it. :);)

If he ever wants to branch out into politics he's definitely got that whole "say a lot without saying anything" thing down

My guess is that AD has recently offered Gundy some retirement/payout package that lets him finish out the year while they look for a new coach. I'd guess Gundy told them to go fly a kite and that he is under contract. So given no other real options they fired him now.
This could explain why they waited until Tuesday -- they might have been trying to negotiate something the past couple days.

Gundy always seemed to have elite wide outs and good QBs, but that hasn't been the case the last couple of years.

Yeah just heaving it to their freak WRs was better offense than the average top 25 team for quite a while there.

All the teams are firing their coach trying to find the next big thing. Not sure who Okie light will get but they might have some competition from Kansas State and some other teams as well.
