Greetings from a Clemson fan....

A Cyclone mentioned in a different thread that a fair number of Hawkeye fans would be attending the Clemson game; if so, who would they root for?

They probably won't be rooting much, they have other activities they prefer to pursue during the game:

1) They' will probably rob the Clemson locker room and then blame Iowa State
2) Stadium restroom sex parties
3) Waving
4) And watch out for the marching band, they will try to take you out

I shouldn't jade you though, mingle with them in Orlando and let us know what you think.

Welcome. Our season was a bit of a disappointment given what we returned from last year, but if we end up beating Clemson it will make a lot of us feel better. Many of us have great respect for the kind of program Clemson is. My biggest fear is our O-line vs your D-line - our Oline was a major disappointment this year.
Really feel like this will be the biggest key to the game. Not many D-lines have more talent than Clemson, that's for sure.

There’s quite a few not confident this will be close. The fear is you guys still have tons of talent and our OL has been dominated by teams with good defensive fronts this year. We played Note Dame a couple years ago and got manhandled. There is concern we will see similar mismatches.

Some concerns by Clemson fans seem to center on the team's motivation; but I don't see that as a worry point. It's been rare in the Swinney era to see an unmotivated Clemson team. I'd be surprised if Clemson plays flat....

@Lemoore85, any thoughts on how your fans will travel? I'm a bit concerned both fan bases are gonna be a little smaller due to disappointing seasons.

I'm thinking it might be a small crowd; I live near Savannah, Georgia, so I'm only about 4 hours away and might go. So far on Clemson's best sports board, Tigernet, there's been nothing about the number of tickets Clemson has sold...

Here is a really good article on Iowa-ISU: https://www.widerightnattylite.com/...ica-needs-farmers-ahf-anf-matt-campbell-tweet

The most likely way for this ISU team to end the season would be to get the ball back on offense late, down a score, march down the field to the red zone thru Brock Purdy's heroics, and run out of time and/or turn the ball over. That's how most of our losses have occurred this year. I'm just hoping we don't run back the ND loss from 2019's bowl game where ISU got its a$$es kicked 33-9 after losing a bunch of close games that year.

ISU losses this year.
-Iowa just flat out beat us yet again.
-Baylor: ISU scored TD with 30 seconds to go and missed 2 pt conversion to lose by 2.
-WVU: weird game yet still had the ball was driving late when we had some poor clock management & had a hail mary from the 30 go incomplete. Lose by 7.
-TX Tech: ISU tied the game with a field goal late. Tech drives to midfield and makes 62 yard FG at the gun to win it.
-OU: Drive down to red zone; Purdy overthrows open TE on 4 & 10. Lose by 7.

I can certainly relate to the close games; Clemson stopped GT I think at the 2 yard line with under a minute to go, Syracuse missed a game tying FG with under a minute to go, Boston College fumbled a snap on about our 20 with around a minute to go and we stopped Louisville on 4th and goal with under 30 seconds to go........that's enough excitement for one season...

Thanks for your service and I'm glad the marriage worked out. The ISU/UofI rivalry is so bad that the UofI marching band assaulted our fans after a game and then accused us of starting it. One little problem for the hoks, our stadium security cameras caught them instigating it. ooops.
Don’t forget when Iowa fans would steal from their own team’s visiting locker room at Iowa State and then have the Iowa team blame it on ISU fans.

I don't want this to be a "barn burner" type game! I only enjoy those type games when other teams are playing..:). But something tells me this might be an Instant Classic......

I'm watching a lot of Iowa State's games on Youtube; I never played organized football but my son does so I'm counting on him to point out some Xs and Os that I wouldn't be aware of. Some of Clemson's problems on offense have been attributed to the O-line, but I rather think it's our QB. So the O vs D-lines on both sides might be a tie...
I haven't watched a lot of Clemson this year, but from what I gather offense was more of an issue than defense. I'd expect a low scoring game, and it appears Vegas agrees with the O/U at 45.5.

Our defensive line is very good, lead by Will McDonald who is a first team all-american. Our LB corps is also good; Mike Rose was the Big 12 defensive player of the year last year - was good this year as well, but battled some injuries. If there is a weakness in the defense, it is in the passing game as our secondary had some issues (particularly in the West Virginia and Texas Tech games). Our safeties are better against the run; Isheem Young hits as hard as I've seen a safety hit. I'm looking forward to it; should be a fun game!

ISU has been a second-half team all year. Our offense is what it is but we're consistent. However the defense is typically good in the first half and terrific in the second. I was happy as long as we went into halftime within 10 points, because the D wasn't going to give up more than 7 the rest of the game.

Against Iowa we were -3 (or -4?) on TOs but otherwise outplayed them. People will argue with me on that, but the stats said we would have been expected to win that game 75% of the time.

WVU and TxTech are the real head scratchers. Against WVU we tackled poorly all game. TxTech just had us figured out in the first half, going up by I think 21 at one point. Both ended up close as, like I mentioned, our O continued to battle and our D shut them down.

I don't remember what happened against Baylor. Maybe they roofied us. Oklahoma just beat us in the trenches.

I'm confident our guys will be focused from the kick against a premium opponent. I've seen that despite some early hiccups, Clemson has played at it's more typical, very high level over the last 6-8 weeks of the season.

There are a lot of ISU fans that were hoping for this match-up - not because they thought it would be a cakewalk but rather because they knew playing against your talent would be a challenge with a potential for high reward.

This. I would take a challenge over getting some patsy lower name team that would be an easier way out.

Pretty similar to Tech, jumped out on us, Brock had a tipped ball get picked that killed us and we had a failed 2pt that would have tied the game.

Iowa State is the land grant school in Iowa (actually the first land grant) so we have the Ag college. Most of the Hawkeye fans will end up wandering the aisles of Walmart after their Burger King shift.

One of the questions on the U of Iowa admission form asks if your parents are related. If not you are not accepted.

The Cy-Hawk rivalry is very heated. There is actually a competition across all sports as well as in each individual sport. Considering there are no pro teams in Iowa or terribly close, the schools tend to be a fan's primary rooting interest so it is pretty rabid.

Many Iowa fans refer to ISU as MOO U, because of our Ag school. This is true despite Iowa having an ANF sticker on their helmet (for "America Needs Farmers") since the late 80s or early 90s.
Welcome,
ISU also has many names for the University of Iowa which, of course, are much more creative than Moo U, but I will defer to my fellow Cyclones, as some younger fans maybe reading the thread as it refers to our bowl game, which many junior Cyclone fans are excited about! However, we did play them in Basketball yesterday evening, and our student section had one particular Squakeye in their sights, as he had been involved in a bar altercation with a former ISU athlete, had insulted our arena by leaving his shoes by the players bench 2 years ago with a message to our University written on them, plus he tried (and Failed) to imitate one of our former( now NBA) players, thus a chant was quickly composed that had an F word plus his last name by 5000 students, available on utube if you so desire. ESPN has probably dropped the game from their replays by now.:jimlad:

Have been a Clemson fan since 1972, and the Best Man in my wedding was an Iowa Hawkeye fan from Des Moines. So I am somewhat familiar with Iowa State football and have visited your great state several times. I think the average Clemson fan is very excited about playing you guys, and all indications are that it will be a very, very close game. Similar to the Cyclones, our strength is our D while our offense is erratic. I've been scouting Iowa State as most of your games are on Youtube; the teams are very, very similar. Hope everyone has a great time at the game!

Really fun, measuring stick match up for our program. Wish it was in the playoff, but looking forward to it!

People like to complain about our o-line, corners, etc. but statistically it was a good year. Just caught some bad breaks and a few very costly mistakes.
Big 12 stats

2nd in total offense
2nd in total defense
3rd in scoring offense
3rd in scoring defense
#1 passing offense
Thing that gets most people frustrated is #6 rushing offense despite having Hall in the backfield
Leading sacks in McDonald (#4 Uwazurike)
Leading rusher with Hall
Leading passer in Purdy
#2 receiver in Hutchinson (#6 receiver in tight end Kolar)
#4,8, and11 tackles for loss (McDonald, Uwazurike, Rose)
.
