Green Bean Casserole

Only good thing about green bean casserole is eating the French's fried onions off the top of it.

I've always suspected it's actually this. Fried onions are objectively good tasting unhealthy food.

I elevated my game this year and made Artichoke Spinach Brie Stuffing and Rosemary Goat Cheese Mashed Potatoes. Very hoity-toity, but damn good.

Use the broiler to reheat it. It crisps the onions right back up.

there's not much better than a really good GBC. i'm the designated chef for that during holidays.

my grandma used to make a killer scalloped corn and oyster casserole, which i've convinced my mom to start making.

i'll also never forget the first time i brought my wife (from the western Chicago burbs) out to my grandparents' farm for dinner. THAT was the day she learned that ham balls are real.

My MIL makes creamed corn with oysters. Effing AWESOME!

Put a can of sliced water chestnuts (cut the slices in half) in. Helps provide the crunch lost from the green beans. Also a tablespoon of soy sauce.

In Colorado, they have never heard of ham balls - or pork tenderloins.

I mean, Neanderthal, am I right.

We have been converting them one neighbor at a time.

Challenge is getting good pork in Colorado.

I moved to Iowa as a sophomore in high school. I had never heard of pork tenderloins, ham balls, or green bean casserole. I was a senior before I tried a tenderloin, freshman at ISU before having green bean casserole, and married before having a ham ball. The only way I can get down a ham ball is let the sauce drip off it first. The other two items are great.

Never had GBC until I moved to the Iowa. Don't understand the appeal and it seems to me that people act like it's some sort of badge of honor to bring it.

Iowa pork tenderloin sandwich is probably the hidden gem of all regional American comfort food.

I've described it to lots of people around the country and people are always intrigued.

I don’t know. I actually don’t like it when there is like 6 inches of tenderloin hanging over the edge and there are some savages who love that crap.
