I live on the NE side of Ames and I already have standing water in the low spots of my yard and we are getting more rain tonight and tomorrow. I will expect at least part or most of the grass lots closed. Our group is already planning a backup plan.

I am thinking all grass lots will be closed this Sat. Forcast changed and now it is supposed to rain during the game now.

I think I could make the decision in the grass lots from here in the Des Moines where we haven’t had the rains like Ames The ground is saturated and will need a week(s) to be drivable. My wetland CRP is full

If it stops rain Wednesday they could be ok by game day. It doesn't take too long for the ground to firm up after a rainy period.

I wonder if they'd ever consider tiling out those lots. Seems like it'd be a good lab for our Ag and Biosystems Engineers program. Wouldn't make much of a difference for this Saturday probably, but I bet it would have had it open the other two games.

I know it's likely not worth the expense because this Fall is an aberration and not the norm, but I'm tired of paying for G7 only to be in there for 1 out of the first 4 games.

Jamie Pollard said last night on the interview show that it was likely that some of the grass lots will be closed. I would guess that all of them will be closed.

Does the Haunted Forest stay open? If so, don't the cars just rip it up? And get stuck?

Haunted Forest had large areas roped off because it was too wet for the Akron game. But they were still open.

Due to the size of the group we will have for our tailgate I called the group responsible for the lots. The way the individual made it sound, they will hold out for as long as they can to open the lots, HOWEVER he did say it is very unlikely they will open any of the grass lots. This will force G7 to Vet Med which will close that lot to the general public. I am guessing the general public lots by Scheman and Hilton, if Hilton lots are done, will be the last resort. I did ask what they have done in the past when closing all grass lots, and he said that they will open what they can on campus as well, or tell people to park on side streets. It sounds like they may make a decision before Friday on the lots if the rain keeps up.

Simple answer here. We need lots and lots more concrete parking. That and field turf with drainage like the field. We are rich now right?

They will probably encourage parking by the power plant / horse barns and Moly Bio and run a Bus route. I think they did this for a game last year. And as I finish typing it starts raining again.

Not exactly sure.
Pavement is expensive, especially when you use it only a handful of times a year. Weather wrecks the lots more than any traffic does. For the grass lots the cheapest route would be dropping rock, but even that costs a decent amount. There is more upkeep to rock than the AD would want to do also. It would give permanent alleys though. You could get by doing a strip at a time.

I want what he is on. It would take a good week for things to dry out enough to drive on right now. Add on the fact that there will be continued rain in the coming days and there is not a chance those lots are open.

A few years ago, when G-7 was closed because of rain, you could use your G-7 pass to park in the lots around Hilton and Scheman.

I will take this as an opportunity to remind everyone that the east campus parking ramp and lots at Forker are parking pass lots all hours all days.
