that sucks. that happened to us during the first year of COVID and we went all summer long (and it was a hot one) without AC until we could actually get someone to come out to us in late September. COVID already sucked but that made things so much worse.

Been dealing with that. Got it recharged by a buddy but he said "you're gonna wanna start budgeting now for a new A/C and furnace".......

When power came back on after derecho (1 week without) it fried our furnace so we paid for all new hvac. Another week without cold air.

I've seen enough AC repair videos on tiktok that I have a dangerous amount of confidence that I can fix one now, it's the capacitor like 80% of the time.
I have a leak in a coil. Guy had to put like a lb and a half of Freon in it.

10 years ago, weather like today, just got back from a weekend in Chicago.

No A/C. Dead. Steam room hot upstairs.

Boss and kid gonna tough it out, upper 80's upstairs. I say screw this and sneak into parents home at midnight. Leave at 6am. Spend Monday finding the HVAC company that can rescue us the fastest on Monday. Found one that said Wednesday.

Told the parents what's up. Boss and kid fought another night at home. They capitulated and joined me on Tuesday night.

Original AC from the late 70's per ID number. Way past its sell-by time.

If your AC is out don’t replace your furnace unless you absolutely have too. Maybe ask more than one place. My new AC will be $5700. In a big farm house.
