Paup was a man amongst boys in HS. That era had a few small town kids that, for whatever reason, were not really recruited by Iowa State.
Another was Brian Moritz...a little younger than Paup, but also went to UNI. Won 3 HS wrestling titles and placed the other year...ALL AT HEAVYWEIGHT. We double teamed him on every play, only really ran opposite his side and he still had like 29 tackles and 17 for loss. Like trying to move a brick wall. Pitched against him 5 games in baseball and I concentrated on a zone 2" outside to 8' outside. Wasn't sure what he would do if I brushed him back or God forbid hit him, but I wasn't willing to find out.
Paup wasn't even recruited by UNI. Showed up at the football offices and begged Darrell Mudra to walk on. Didn't take him long to get on scholarship.
I did have that theory, only I was wondering if it was meaning Heacock was about to retire now.
What made things worse he did this celebratory dance which was a cross between an epileptic chicken and a headbanger on crack. I thought his head was going to fly off.
I would think he'd have already done it.
My guess (and that's all it is) is this Heacock's last year, and they're going to be transitioning throughout the year, getting Rasheed more worked in with LBs and DBs, and letting Paup slowly take over DL.
Pure speculation, but that would be very consistent with the way Campbell has handled things.
You’d think he would have done it by now. Campbell did mention yesterday that they are going into the spring with the same coordinators.
lol. Everyone complains about our lack of pass rush, and then when CMC hires a DE pass rush specialist, it’s definitely because of Heacock/Rasheed.

A lot of people said they believe that's a likely move. Not that it's definite at all.
Campbell has a history of promoting from within. Heacock is the oldest member of the staff and is likely close to retirement. Rasheed has been a trusted Campbell assistant for a very long time. He's worked directly under Heacock for a very long time. His position unit has routinely been a strength of ISU's defense (even though pass rush was poor last year). There's nothing at all far fetched with speculating that this is the long term direction the staff is headed.
