Good article from Hines

Shayok also played in the slowest system in college basketball. Not the case with Nixon.

He shoots way too much for his terrible percentage.
I understand what you are saying. But %33 is %33 whether it's 1-3 or 3-9. That is what Nixon's and Shayok's % was before they transferred. I can't promise you that somehow a light will come on and Nixon will become Shayok. But I can promise you no one knew Shayok was going to be what he was based on exactly what you said about systems outside of maybe Prohm. And that is why he recruited him.....same with Nixon. Hopefully it gets better.

So you'd like him to completely berate players? Do you want him to publicly humiliate them and yell a bunch of profanities in their face? Poke their chest? If he'd do that he'd be no better than Fran.

This post right here shows that no matter what this team does, or any team under Prohm does, you will show no support for him. You'd rather Prohm have a terrible season than a good one.

Lol, where did I say I want him to berate or abuse players? Fran rarely does it anyways, its just when he does he makes a complete fool of himself so everyone remembers it. I just want him to hold players accountable when they play poorly.

Whats wrong with pulling a guy aside, explaining where he went wrong, and telling them they're benched until they can do what is asked of them? The article says hes getting on their ass about not rebounding in practice. We continually get abused on the boards in games, and rebounding is all about effort not size. Why not pull guys and tell them if they cant block out or give some effort after loose balls that you will play somebody that can?

Most of the time he just stands there with his arms crossed when things are going south.

Not sure what is going on with Bolton but his shot but it doesn't look right at all.

Reminds me a touch of Naz. Wouldn't be entirely surprised if he was nursing an injury.

I probably don't agree with you on anything else you say but I wanted to comment on your take of Hilton....

I have to say I agree with you on that. It's kind of a tradition for my Dad and I to sit down and watch the "Lafester Game" every year around Christmas. Dad was sitting in the top row of Hilton for that game back in 1987. Growing up he always talked about how great Hilton was under Orr and I always kinda wrote it off as an old guy being nostalgic and thinking things were better than they were.

That is until I bought the game on DVD as a Christmas present for him several years ago, we watched it together and I saw/heard it with my own eyes/ears. The crowd was on their feet whole game. The place erupted every time we scored. Gary Thompson and whoever else was doing play-by-play said a couple of times during the broadcast "Sorry, I couldn't hear you there". They were sitting right next to each other. When starting lineups were introduced, they called Jeff Grayer and Jeff Grayer didn't run out on the court. The players couldn't hear the PA announcer calling their names and Grayer had to be introduced again as someone pointed to each player when it was their turn to run out.

Hilton is still a great home arena and it's still respected across college basketball. But it isn't what it once was. Part of the reason is $$... TV timeouts kill the mood, advertisements inside Hilton kill the mood. That's the age we live in now and that won't ever change. We also have too many distractions on the individual level today. Snapchat, instagram, checking other scores around CBB on your smart phone takes people's attention off the game. In 1987 the game on the court was the only thing to pay attention to. Coming from someone who is a young fan (20s), people my age have never experienced Hilton in it's full form. We've seen some great games and helped cheer the Cyclones back into (and WIN) lots of games they never should've been in without Hilton, but we've never seen Hilton Coliseum at it's best. I truly believe that after seeing the Lafester Game.

Take a look some time at the demographics sitting close to the court back then vs. now too though.

how do you know he isn’t doing that? Do you sit next to his wife in the stands?

since he doesn’t berate his players unless you are constantly right next to him you have no idea what goes on.

also, he’s been pretty clear that guys like Zion don’t always play the way they are supposed to and he sits them.

Who do you put in in the mean time during these teachable moments?

You need to do a much better job of disguising your trolling. Maybe go practice on Hawkeye Nation or something.

Prohm doesn't just sit there and twiddle his thumbs.. he also doesn't come completely unglued. He's in the middle as far as his temperament goes.

Prohm has assistants for a reason. During the game is not time for head coaches to sit a kid down and fully explain what they are suppose to be doing. If the kid is screwing up, they get taken out and the assistants do the explaining. Prohm's job is to coach on the fly and make in-game adjustments, which I think he does need to get better at. The time that Coach Prohm gets on his players is at practice and in the locker room at halftime, which is where all of that should be happening.

You're wrong. Nixon had three full years of putrid shooting to allow for a conclusion. Shayok had one bad shooting season at Virginia that you're choosing to cherry pick. The prior two seasons he was 38 and 43.6% three-point shooter, combining to go 36-89.

Nixon was brought to Ames to strengthen Chicagoland connections and because we had open scholarships to fill and had whiffed on better transfers.

Don't claim to know things you know nothing about.

There is literally a line in the article that he says “If you’re not getting it done defensively, you’ve got to come sit.”
