You have had an account on CF for 3 years and have only posted 44 times. 10% of your posts all time are here in a thread debating the presence and quality of a gameday host that up until 48 hours ago most fans didn't even know was going to be a thing. Seems like a really odd topic to flip someone from lurker to active poster.

So why don't you fill us in on how you are related to Jackie?
Might be related to the person who thought this was a great idea to hire her. So many other ideas to get the crowd and students involved. An in-game host at a minor league hockey and a college football game takes two different people. A hockey game has continuous activity, a football game has action then a break.

Average person can't really be worse than she was. The basketball teams are almost always in the front row of the student sections, incorporate them into a segment. You have our male and female athletes of the year there, work them in. There are all kinds of things you can do. Use the band, they are usually outgoing individuals. She was usually in a group that looked at her as if she was some half baked individual.

It is very obvious; she doesn't know her audience. She is not using segments of it that can help her out. It's almost like she hasn't been to a couple ISU games in her life.
Probably only ISU-Iowa if someone gave her tkts.

Can’t we just listen to the band while checking other scores while they run ads on the ribbon board?
I hate to say it but…then donate more. It’s what gets sponsors to pay more to the AD. Complain all you want but we already nearly dead last in Big 12 donor contributions, if the band is what does it for you tell the AD and donate more.

Maybe it’s from winning more and hate on me if you want but JTS has gotten quieter since the early Campbell years. Rhoads years have seen louder games.

It will be unpopular but I 100% agree with you.

I think it’s a combination of things - expected winning, moving the student section, more timeouts, more casual fans (good thing), and several other factors.

It was the over-the-top, overproduced, fake announcer voice thing that annoyed me about the new host. She was at like an 11, but only needed to be at like a 7. Less "Infomercial", more "friendly, excited fan". Very correctable and I'll give her another chance before grabbing the pitchfork.

As an out of state TV/radio/podcast fan who gets to maybe 1 game every 3-4 years...

yeah, beating every team in the Big 12 compared to like a 50 year losing streak to OU. That definitely creates MORE fans, but of the less crazy variety than those who lived through that.

And if winning isn't as surprising the reaction won't be as much.

Like Hilton still gets going but beating a #5 or something doesn't hit like it did in the early 90s.

Maybe people are drinking less too.

As someone with some experience here, there absolutely is, however it’s not quite that straightforward. The PA system overall would be tuned to the stadium, but getting the different mics to sound exactly like each other is difficult because of the variables between mic type, manufacturing, and just where the mic is in relation to the person speaking. Then you finally get to the question of “how does this specific person sound on a given mic, and is it good?” which itself is a bit more art than science.

It sounds like perhaps there is more adjusting that could be done for the host, and I’m sure they’ll do that. There’s never enough time given to do these sorts of things. Also, in my experience the overall tuning done on PA systems can tend to over-emphasize clarity, both to help the crowd understand and also to help fight feedback, but usually at the expense of generating a somewhat harsh sound. Again, I’m sure tweaking will happen.
We went to the Sphere in Las Vegas for two shows in two different seating locations and the sound was absolutely incredible. Clear and perfect regardless of location. It can be done. It just cost 2.2 billion.

Does anyone else find it absolutely embarrassing for everyone involved that the armed police put up a rope to stop "rushing the field" after the most mundane, unexciting, and expected wins?

I remember the stadium shaking during the 2011 Okie State and 2016 WVU games and the anticipation of the end of the Okie State game is still with me. It will be forever.

Pollard has traded the potential for unforgettable memories with thinking kids are going to rush the field against an FCS team were supposed to beat. The atmosphere has changed. Not in a good way.

There have been some decisions I've disagreed with (like moving the student section to that corner.) But I'd bet that the decision to do that is just part of the protocol for all games rather than trying to have security figure it out on a per-game basis.

They have done it after every game for the last couple years. I remember standing in the floor of Hilton and too many were confused on how to control the crowd and just slinked away so it was a waste. If they do it for every game, it is just a part of the job. Plus, if we do have a big game, they will know what to do.

It's funny. The same 3 to 4 guys who keep digging in deeper with their opinion are the ones who keep justifying why it's ok to be a jerk. I'm sure they would be ok if someone said that to their wife or daughter. Probably exact same ones who are the reason Chris had to pull a thread on Jack Whitver. Openly happy someone with a family is battling an awful disease.

Life's too short to be so angry at someone doing their job.

I would love to know how you believe she is enhancing the game day experience for fans.

I know people are unhappy with Jackie's efforts to date, but I want to say her heart is in the right place. I was her assistant softball coach in 1988-89. She is essentially the same person today as she was as a nine year old. She was outspoken and emotional and very supportive of her teammates. She was energetic and a character. We were losing a lot, but her parents, along with a couple of other families, backed us up when others wanted us to be replaced. I know it is hard to see, but Jackie signed the 1989 team softball I still possess. Give her a chance.
