It cracks me up that people think just anyone can pick up a mic and do the job. It isn't that easy and there is an art to It. And you have to be committed to give up your time for what I'm sure is terrible pay.

And fewer and shorter TV timeouts were NEVER an option. The unfortunate reality is the Big 12 no longer has big eyeball schools and this is what they have to do to try to cut how much further behind they're falling in the budget department.

I don't care who's doing the job, it's more the concept of having something like that at a college football game like it's some cheap carnival like atmosphere.

Agreed. It's one of those things where, because the general populace can sort of innately understand whether or not it's good (kind of like acting), they assume they can just do it and it be good, which is not true at all.

And to add on to that, the host is only really there to execute the gameday entertainment plan. So if there's a lack of actvities, games, fan interactions, or other things... that's squarely on ISU, and NOT the host. She probably has some input, idea-wise, but the kinds of things people have mentioned in this thread require jumbotron graphics, and sounds, and sponsor involvement, etc etc etc. Plans. The host can't just make all that happen themself.

I would hate to read his inbox today.
If I were him, I wouldn’t read my inbox ever. My assistant would scrub my emails and tell me about the important ones. I cringe to think of the number of whiny emails that are sent to him though…

Hmm. Well everyone is talking about this lady so people were paying attention to her. Pretty good advertising.
There's a line though. If people love you, that's great. If people love to hate you, that's not bad either. If people just want you to go away, that's not great.

And when bad things happen people tak about it. That doesn't make it good advertising. I know I'm going extreme with this example, but the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 the weather here in Iowa was really nice. No one was talking about the weather.

You think you're pointing out a contradiction in logic but you're really just saying what should be clear to most ticket-holding fans in this era of college athletics: it's a TV product now and the people who take the time and spend the money to show up and watch in person are a distant second.

Maybe people are starting to realize that and that's why the corners had empty seats for the opener of a highly anticipated season.
It’s not so much a contradiction in logic as a recognition of the reality. When you accept big piles of TV money, you play by TV’s rules. And TV has to make that money back somehow, the entire reason they paid for CFB rights is because it draws viewers which advertisers want to reach with their ads.

And yes, in a lot of ways, the game experience has gotten worse for the in-person attendees (it’s not exactly all sunshine and rainbows for those watching on TV, either, but you can at least flip around/use multi view to cope with commercial breaks). Hyping up the experience with screeching DJs and in-game hosts as a way to cover increasingly obtrusive ad breaks is, well, maybe not welcome, but not surprising either.

This is just fiction. ISU and fans nationwide have bitched about the breaks and how terrible they are. This is the standard industry response. This is response to the survey they sent out to everyone. They are trying something different because people wanted something different.

But even if it's a response to a survey did the survey ask about a host?

I haven't seen the survey. It's not a bad idea to involve interested parties when solutioning. JP has historically discussed his market and not a "standard industry response".

The host may or may not be the answer, but there's enough traffic here to make me wonder if it's a misfire.

Maybe this lady should take a cue from pro-wrestling and just lean into being the heal. Come out and insult the fans. Insult the stadium. Insult the city. If she could pull that off people would be waiting for her to make an appearance so they can shower her with boos.

Crazy lady: "Everyone sitdown and shut up and listen to me. I SAID SHUT UP! Listen, I know you don't like me, but I don't care what you like. I'm not here to make friends, I'm just hear to do my job. QUIT YOUR BOOING! SHUT UP! For some reason they want me to talk to you ugly, mouthbreathing group of people about the flex cam. The flex cam? Why are we doing a flex cam? None of you fat fans has a single muscle between you to flex. Whatever, do the camera thing. Delta Dental Smile cam? Is there a dentist in Ames? Why are we doing an ad for a dentist? SHUT UP! None of you people has been to a dentist in well over a decade. SHUT UP! I can't wait until this game is over and I can get on the fastest road away from this place."

That would get people energized. That would get people standing up and booing her as loud as they could. People wouldn't be on their phones. They'd be screaming at her.

We say we are the best fan bases. Yet we trash a woman doing her job in a message board. There's a line of criticism versus being a jerk. Many of these are jerks. Some of these people on this board need to step back and learn to be a decent person.
I feel it's being decent to let someone know if they suck instead of letting them continue to suck. You know, help them improve themself.

Fans: “Hooray, look at all this TV money our conference is getting! This is the big time, baby! WOOOOOHOOOOO!”

Also fans: “What the hell, all these 3 1/2 minute TV timeouts are just killing the game day experience. Man, this blows.”
Meh, at this point I don't give a ****. They're still asking me to pay just as much, actually more, so it doesn't help me one bit. Considering this, and then we need the marketing shoved done even more... somewhere there is a breaking point. Don't know where, but somewhere.

Some inappropriate comments from a minority of posters in this thread for sure, but lecturing the fan base over a negative reaction to this is a bit much. She has social media posts from within the last calendar year decked out in Hawkeye gear and proclaiming herself a Hawk fan. That's going to get a negative reaction from pretty much any passionate fan base.
Genuine question as I haven’t seen. Does she ever say she’s a hawk fan? Or did she just do a promo social media thing for Iowa? Seems like her job is promo stuff so the latter would make sense to me

The only difference is the delivery.

The issue wasn’t the delivery but the product they were delivering.

Football games have probably 10 or more breaks/game that last at least 2 and an half minutes and have absolutely nothing entertaining to fill that time.

Having someone else do the exact same ad reads they have been doing for the past 15 years isn’t the solution, especially when she is significantly more obnoxious.

In her posts that have been posted on here, it specifically says Hawk fan.

Not exactly sure.
Talking about delivery, here are just a couple examples I can give since I've been a cyclone fan for basically forever.

For the smile cam, find Audi Crooks, shes usually in the front row. Say, "here is Audi and the her unforgettable smile" Delta dental wants to know if you have a better smile than Audi.

For the Landus headset, she can get a cheap one and a white board and write ISU WIN BIG on it (does that not remind you of the one guy who showed up for 10 years on the jumbotron who would dress up like a coach) and do a basic impersonation of that guy, and then say, Landus wants you to be the coach and make the call, and segment into it. For other games, put the headset on a fan and have them write a pre-approved saying on the board and then segment into it.

That corn video thing, I think its' Iowa corn, get a fake wig and sunglasses, find a farmer or a guy dressed in bibs (claim he's a farmer) and say, Jimmy here is an Iowa corn farmer...................., then whatever the statement needs to be.

It's not rocket science, its delivery and knowing the audience.
