Friday OT #1 - The Hook Brings You Back

I would think the last episode of season one of Game Of Thrones would make people want to see more.

Good idea, but that was the first big shocker for people who hadn't read the books.

They aren't going to kill Ned, right? He's the main ******* character!

I am a huge fan of The West Wing (especially seasons 1-4 while Aaron Sorkin was still at the helm). I would suggest 2 episodes (one that is my favorite and the other one that actually drew me in to become an avid watcher of the series).
My fave: "Noel" from season 2 where Josh is dealing with PTSD
The one that drew me in during season 1: "Celestial Navigation" where the staff is trying to "quietly" bail their Supreme Court nominee out of a local jail.

It's brilliant. It's all of them, even the side characters, all in that room and they all get to showcase their funny roles so well. That's hands down Gil Chesterson's best episode. Hilarious.

BLINK is one of the scariest episodes of Dr Who though.

For a week after seeing it, I would believe the monster from that episode would be behind my bedroom door when I would open it in the morning.

I agree! I love the brilliance of the writers having Roz come to the performance just after a trip to the dentist. Her lines, while short and subtle, were amazing (plus, I am a huge Peri Gilpin fan). That show is still my "go-to" when I am winding down at night before bed. One of the best-written sitcoms of all time, imho!

"Blink" - Doctor Who
The Doctor is a side character in this episode, but still important. It's a mind trip, and a great stand alone episode that you really don't need a huge backstory...just know that The Doctor is a time traveler. Plus, Carey Mulligan!

"The Body" - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I'll avoid the big spoiler...just in case. But for a show that deals with the supernatural and inhuman, this episode is written so humanly. Dealing with stuff people have to deal with everyday. And yet, there's humor to it, too.

Silence in the Library would be a good one to hook people on. The mysterious River Song appears and it's just a great all around episode. Also pretty scary.

Also premiered 10 years ago yesterday May 31st!

Love this episode although I grew to despise River Song.

Speaking from experience, I had seen episodes from The Office and wasn’t impressed. College roommmate freshman year had me watch Diversity Day and the basketball episode in season 1 and I was hooked. Since then I’ve probably seen the series 4-5 times

Yeah, in thinking about it, you could probably get hooked on any one single episode, and be fired up enough to go back and start from the beginning.

Agreed. The first two that came to mind for me were Box Cutter and Dead Freight, but I could easily name another half dozen or so.

Mary Tyler Moore Show - Chuckles Bites the Dust

The Wonder Years - the first episode was probably the best and a brilliant way to pull a viewer in.

Rockford Files - Quickie Nirvana - "THAT'S The Sound of One Hand Clapping.!

Archer - Skytanic
This is the episode where the series really finds its footing, and is a great example of what seasons 1-4 are.

I would recommend 18th and Potomac and Two Cathedrals. Two tremendous episodes back to back to wrap up Season 2.

Seinfeld - The Contest
Game of Thrones - Red Wedding
Cheers - Pick a Con (great episode with Harry Anderson)
Simpsons - Marge vs the Monorail
Futurama - Amazon Women in the Mood - "Death by snu snu!"
Family Guy - To Love and Die in Dixie
Robot Chicken - Star Wars parodies

I see what you did there, but she is the ultimate I know something you don’t know pain in the ass.

That might be what I liked most about her. The whole mystery of who she was, how she knew the doctor, and how she encountered him completely in reverse was amazing to me.

I remember being dumbfounded when we found out who she was. It seemed obvious in retrospect but I was shocked.

If I had to choose one episode of Firefly I'd probably go with the pilot. It introduces all the characters very well and hooked me.

But, if I wanted to choose a non-pilot episode, I'd go with Jaynestown. Everyone needs to know the story of "The Hero of Canton".

Of course I would just tell anyone interested to watch the whole series in one shot, like I've done multiple times.
