Friday OT #1 - Emily Posting

Being ignored in the middle of a conversation. For example: Messaging someone out of the blue, asking them if you can ask them a couple questions about their profession, they say yeah go ahead, ask the questions, then they never get back to you.

If you don't want to talk to me, that's fine, just say so. I don't care if you politely do it or tell me to **** off, better than left guessing whether or not you're eventually going to get back to me or the conversation is over.

I'm pretty Progressive politically. My friends and family in Iowa mostly are not. I used to drop links correcting people all the time. However, the threads usually spiraled out of control pretty quickly. I had to make a rule for myself that I would not post on anyone else's threads unless it was really, really egregious.

That said, I expect the same treatment for my threads. If they want to debate something constructively, bring a reasoned argument. It can't be just 'AOC is an idiot' or your comment will be deleted. Unfortunately, I've got a group of 4-5 trolls that comment on everything I post. I try to keep to my rule and delete, but often end up getting sucked in and immediately regret it.

I have no problem with swearing (not in front of kids or in a disrespectful way), but I have issues with people that have to have a trail of expletives in a Facebook post.

I'm not sure if this is really rude, but I deleted my birthday in FB for two reasons. 1) I wanted to see if my SIL would remember it since she loves to guilt trip us for forgetting anything. She didn't remember. 2) I haven't cared about celebrating my birthday in a long time and having random people that barely know wish me a happy birthday seemed odd to me. My wife thinks it's a big deal, but I don't even care a little.

I have 2 Facebooks 1 for family and friends and 1 for people I play fb games with. It's always interesting that between both accounts the one with people I will never meet make birthday posts on my birthday than people who actually know me.

I don't know if guys get this as much, but it drives me CRAZY when people add me to their MLM scheme groups without asking, trying to get me to buy fake fingernails or Norwex or whatever.

We have a daughter who does that. She's also a hawkeye, and a RWNJ. I finally hid her (but did not defriend because...daughter...). Her ex actually posts more about our granddaughters than she does, anyway.

I hate vague-posting. I just want to smack them upside the head & shout: grow up!!

I get sucked into political commentary now and again (gee, who woulda thunk it?), but I try to keep it calm and logical. I dislike it when people go on the attack with name-calling and excessive cussing (since FB doesn't filter like CF).

Conspiracy theories and outright inaccurate information - Snopes and Politifact are my friends.

Obscene memes, particularly those aimed at women - one SIL kept posting nasty comments about a certain Latina congresswoman. I had enough when he posted a pic of her with her mouth wide open and captioned with "there's only one thing to do with that mouth". I asked how he would feel if someone posted a pic about one of his daughters with that caption. He actually stopped after that. I don't think he ever thought about it that way, just thought the meme was "funny".

Post, share & like scams. Too many of my family members think those are real...

I'm not sure what the actual acronym means; @Angie used it. I took it as "party ****" and pyramid sales. The daughter has sold Scentsy and has now added some jewelry stuff to her repetoire, and I kept getting roped into the groups.

Good topic. Couple things for me:

1. I may come off as a jerk, but I simply just don't do causes and don't join random groups or follow along with chain-games ect. Sorry just don't want to. Someone challenged me to post something I was thankful for every day of November last year and I just ignored it.

2. I can't stand people who are cryptic just because they want attention. Example "well...that sucked...why me...alway me"

1000% correct on the cryptic stuff. Absolute pet peeve of mine. Why play this game? Just say what it is your feel the need to say without someone having to beg you to say it.

90% of what i see is rude BS, i'm sure some algorithm puts that up front. Honestly I don't go on facebook at all unless i need to message someone and that's the only way (fail AIM/msn messenger).

I only do other social media sites if i get notifications on my phone from friends or family

I have someone who does this and if she doesn't get someone asking what is wrong or trying to make her feel good quick enough she starts going on about how no one cares about her. I love her but that **** is irritating as hell.
