Friday OT #1 - Back In the High Life Again

@cyclonedave25 posed this question in the Lowe's vs Home Depot thread recently, so I put it here. What job do you plan to do/want to do when you retire?

I want to take off a while to do nothing - like, maybe a few months. And then I want to do something creative. I have no firm ideas here, mind you.

How about you?

At 62 I struggle with this. Too many people retire and don't have a plan on what they will do to occupy themselves. I worked with a guy that was back working as a security guard at the office because after 6 months he was so bored.

I was in sales (flooring) for about ten years before moving on to management positions, but it is my favorite of all the jobs I've done, so I've thought about moving somewhere warm and doing that as a semi-retirement gig.

I can see myself doing some form of work just to keep the brain working.

But something simple like the receipt marker person at Costco or something.

Professional tailgater would be ideal. I probably have at least 20+ more years before I can even think about retirement but probably see myself wanting to visit various baseball and football stadiums across the country as 1 thing. Maybe take up a hobby or home improvement project and I can see myself having more time to try more new things with my smoker too.

I plan on retiring at 60, buying a house that has a pool, and hang out in the pool all day.

I quit working when the number of kids made it not worth it.

I did up the volunteer work as they got older, especially at school.

I have served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and volunteer at a domestic abuse shelter.

I plan to volunteer a lot. Food pantries, meals on wheels, humane shelters, etc. I'll need something to stay active and still have interaction with people, but I'm going to stay away from conflict as much as possible. I don't need the hate in my life now, and I sure don't need it when I retire.

I was thinking move someplace warm and mow greens at a golf course to get my lazy butt out of bed in the morning. Long ways off though.

I'd love to be an adjunct professor. Teach a few somewhat specialized classes at the college I live next to.

I am still 30 years away from retirement. I want to purchase rental properties right now in my life (its a hard start right now), so I assume I would manage/invest in real estate as a more part time job.

Everyone working at our food pantry is old so we all wear a mask. The people coming in refuse to wear one so we make them wait in car and wheel food out to them. Feel like a carhop again.

Something interesting.

I worked at high adventure camps for about 5 years (backpacking and canoeing), and they are always looking for support in some way from older volunteers in the summer.
Not sure what I'd do for the winter, probably get involved with local non-profits.

Not a bad option. I think that’s a degree you have to go down to Texas Tech first to get though.

With the way everything is going I will probably have to work until I die.

But if I do get the option, I might do more umpiring if my knees can handle it.

Get rid of livestock and travel the country offering to be a tractor driver for different farms all over the country that raise different crops. So much to see and learn from how people do things in other parts of the country.
