Fertilizing my lawn for initial spring application

Got lazy one spring, and called A+ to do the spring weed/feed.
My yard never looked worse.........

Now, i just spread some Menards/Home Depot bagged stuff on the yard every other month, or so.
Yard looks Much better than A+'s piss poor attempt.
Good to know, our neighbors who moved in the same day we did have had A+ out twice now for treatment and their yard is noticeably worse than mine.

I'll stick with my Scotts treatment 4x/year.

I have switched over to Lesco fertilizer (from Home Depot or Lowes) and have been happier with it than Scotts. I know the analysis shows the same or close to it, but I have noticed better results with it.

Haven’t had any free weekends to overseed our lawn over the past month. Now that more frost is in the forecast next weekend (central IA), am I better off waiting until November to do a dormant seeding?

I've got the same question as iastater7, but for fertilizer. When is too late for fall / winterizer application?

I just installed a sandpoint & will be watering my yard a lot now. Looking forward to finally having a nice looking yard.

We moved to a new place, my neighbor has A+ and I did nothing this year but water, mow it high with a sharp blade, and put on fall fertilizer when I had it aerated. Mine looks way better. Going to start step 4 next spring now that the sod is a year old.

If I wanted to put down a topdressing treatment on just a small patch of lawn, does anyone have any product recommendations? (I don't want to pay a service.) I've never topdressed, but this patch seems to be suffering from some sort of nutrient deficiency, as I've treated it the same as other similar areas of my lawn but it looks noticeably worse.

FWIW, I've already aerated, overseeded, and put down an early fall Milorganite application.

would I just be completely wasting my time if I tilled a small patch and seeded this late in the season?

Instead of tilling my garden, I spaded it. I doubt the tiller would have gotten that deep as the ground was hard, probably would have dislocated both shoulders trying to till it.

We have deer eating succulents overnight leaving pellets of "fertilizer".

Should I be concerned?

Gotta do a final mow and cut it real short before the winter. Is it best to bag that final mowing's or mutch and leave in the yard to protect it some for winter? Or does it not matter?

I thought it was always very long in the fall then short first mow of the spring? I mulch all year.

Maybe that’s the way to do it. I mulch all year as well. I thought it was the first and last mowings are supposed to be short. Then long as what’s reasonable in between.

I was wondering the same thing. Would it be to early to put down my late fall fertilizer this weekend? My grass seems to have all but stopped growing (still green but not getting taller) so I was wondering if I should go ahead and get it down now.
