By and large disaster movies are pretty average but I still will watch some if they’re on. Twister. Dante’s Peak (so bad it’s good?). Deep Impact (honestly 10x better than Armageddon).Moonfall is on TBS tonight. This is definitely not it, despite Halle Berry being in it.
TwssI've always been a sucker for 'Deep Impact'.
American components, Russian components, all made in Taiwan!I honestly can’t think of a disaster movie that was any good. Deep Impact maybe just because of Morgan Freeman. I always liked Armegeddon because of the Russian guy and Buscemi, but a popcorn flick.
The 1972 Poseidon Adventure and 1974 Towering Inferno are the gold standard for me. Actually gave me nightmares as a kid after watching them both on Sunday Night at the Movies on ABC.I honestly can’t think of a disaster movie that was any good.
What about The Day After? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, and I’m sure it hasn’t aged well, but I remember watching it as a kid. Terrifying.Day after tomorrow is one I’ll stop and watch if it’s on.
Good stuff. I'd offer up "The China Syndrome" in this spirit, nuclear power plant disruption. Jack Lemmon. Wilford Brimley. Jane Fonda. Michael Douglas. Awesome movie. The 1972 Poseidon Adventure and 1974 Towering Inferno are the gold standard for me. Actually gave me nightmares as a kid after watching them both on Sunday Night at the Movies on ABC.
Most of the others since then are fun bad. Those are my wife's favorite ones.

Less CGI, more foam pieces falling on people, please.
Might be the best opening single shot in a movie ever madeIt's not a disaster movie, but 'Contact' is really good.
