Outbreak is a good callArmageddon is definitely my favorite. Independence Day would be right up there too with an alien invasion. Outbreak is a good one. If you think the COVID pandemic sucked that movie shows just how much worse it could be.
One of my favorite movies is The Abyss. I tend to think of it as more science fiction, but it definitely centers around a disaster scenario. The Martian fits into this category as well.

Yes, but a major plot point is the ocean floor platform umbilical gets cut off from the surface during a storm and the station takes heavy damage in the process. The station floods and a bunch of the crew dies.Wasn't The Abyss more like Close Encounters where it's more about exploration and fascination? I'd have to watch it/review.
War Games was kind of like this. It was a "computer game" and nuclear annihilation, not AI.Not yet a movie, but I read a terrifying story about AI ... written by AI. I'm a life-long computer geek. I was writing pseudo AI in the 70's. This was a brilliantly written story which, sad to say, will happen. It won't be 'Terminator' like because the AI logic was to exterminate that which ruins the world they exist in without harming the environment itself. And how they managed to escape their digital confinement was what made the whole thing tick. Mark my words, this will be made into a movie.
I like I Am Legend, though it sort of misses the entire point of the book. But kind of hard to do that in a movie.I liked... I, Robot, Independence Day, I am Legend...coincidentally Will Smith movies.
