Ew ew that smell (top smells)

Prior Navy….took the family to San Diego in 2017 for a family vacation. Spent a day on the Midway (WWII and Vietnam era carrier). Walking into the hangar bay the smells of a ship (haze gray paint / primer, ocean air, JP5) hit my nostrils and took me right back.

FWIW, if you find yourself in SD and are looking for something to do, highly recommend taking a tour of the Midway.

All farm scents when growing up. Fresh cut hay, liquid hog manure, runny chicken droppings when cleaning the chicken house, freshly baked bread, incense at church on Sunday. Some good, some unpleasant but all memorable.

The slightly warm oily smell of my vintage jukebox when powered up and allowed to warm for about 10 minutes.

Also, the interior smell of a vintage car. That slightly musty old upholstery has a unique odor that takes me back.

Walking into a cigar/pipe store it takes me right back to when I would visit my great grandpa, he smoked Prince Albert, happy memories.

You probably have to be of a certain age to remember but in school whenever someone threw up the custodians put this pink sawdust concoction on it.

The end result smell was a mixture of something fruity, lumber, and vomit.
I think you nailed it!

The smell of death. Not a rotting carcass or anything like that. I’m talking about finding someone deceased or being there when someone passes away. I still remember the smells around me when my dad passed. The sun melting the frost on the wet mushy ground, the hay in the barn, hogs on concrete and the smell of bulk delivered soybean meal. Sounds strange but something that kinda sticks with you.

Getting into Souix City or Denison for high school baseball and soccer games was always the same nasty smell.

Oh man- that first time you get to open your windows in the spring and mow the lawn. Fresh cut lumber. Usually when a blue-haired gal uses way too much perfume it’s gross- unless it’s the same old fragrance my gramma used to bathe in. Then I have happy memories.
