ESPN Laying Off Additional On-Air Personalities

Curious to see if any of these guys land at Fox. Seems they've been picking these guys off from ESPN.

I personally, hope someone like Ed Werner will head over there.

So they let go of O'Neil and Brennon and Dakic is still employed (as of RN)?

doesn't Dakic call the games? Unless they're planning on having fewer college basketball games, that's generally not the place where you make staffing cuts.

Our fans appear to watch more ESPN than we have led on with the prior "I only watch games" comments.
I used to watch SC all the time but it sucks now and I only watch games. If they went back to more highlights I'd watch again while getting ready for bed. Instead they talk about the current hot story day after day.

Maybe some of them, but it hasn't really worked out well for Fox so far to bring in ESPN's unwanted parts.

Is anybody watching ESPN right now? I'm curious if and how they're going to cover this news. It's all over the interwebz.

I think Cowherd is doing alright. I enjoy his show more than I enjoy him personally.

Cris Carter has a nice impact I feel like, too.

Chris Broussard is OK.

Obviously, Skip is terrible, awful, horrible, no good and so is his show.

He'll end up covering the NFL on a major network. CBS or Fox.

Hannah Storm with a "reduced role" according to the Deadspin article tracking the layoffs? That stinks, I remember her as a bit of a groundbreaker. Was prominent on the NBA on NBC in the 90s. (And of course... dat NBA on NBC theme music!!)

good, he sucked

Really going to miss his terrible suggestions and awful trade ideas. Not to mention his completely false "rumors" from "sources."

Some talented people lost their jobs today... Jim wasn't one of them.

Hmm... see where some B1G people were let go, Pretty sure that the SEC/Sabin donated some money to keep all the reporters for the SEC intact.

I think all of the smart asses on there, especially the jerk that used to work for WHO, have hurt viewership.

This take is fantastic. ESPN is dying because of the executive leadership. They can try to blame the consumer as much as they want but they put themselves in this situation. Are they taking pay cuts, losing their jobs?

Yep. People are still consuming live sports. Its all the other crap they try and force feed consumers. People want the events; most don't care for "embrace debate."

then why would you sit and watch highlights of teams you don't particularly care about?

The reason people watched sportscenter was to see the scores and highlights of their favorite teams and/or other championship/playoff contenders. Once people were able to get those in five minutes rather than watching for a hour or half hour, highlight only shows become pointless.

I disagree 100% with this. I remember watching NFL Primetime growing up and enjoyed seeing highlights of every game. I kept way more in touch with the league by doing that. As somebody who doesn't have Redzone now, I don't get to see many NFL highlights since ESPN, NFL Network, NBC, etc. doesn't really show them. Obvioulsy I'm not going to go out of my way to look up Titans vs Texans highlights, but if there was a show on at 6:30 on Sunday nights where they actually show highlights, I'd absolutely watch it.
