enCYCLONEpedia: Anxiety, relief, and perspective

For me, the last game had more stress than the previous ten. As expectations are not met (two more losses than expected at this point), I will have to adjust. Still not sure how we have only six dependable players at this point. That is like the Dukies.

Great stuff Kirk. Fully agree. I think what is so hard for us is that this is uncharted territory for most fans. We have been this good for this long of a stretch. Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc might have a frustrating year where their expectations weren't met like ours. Or perhaps they aren't as deep as they'd like, again like us. Or maybe they are frustrated that the team hasn't learned from previous mistakes, again like us.

But those blue blood schools know there is a next year and they will be good again. I think the worry for us, hitting this historical stretch of winning, comes with the fear of seeing it go away. We won't have a team that can compete for a Big 12 regular season title next year. We won't have a team with 2 All-American's on it next year. We are probably unknowingly worrying that this year could be the last incredibly great year. I think we can be a tourney team next year. But we probably won't be on that 2 or 3 seed line.

Thanks...that second paragraph is a really good point, too.

What's funny is most the ISU fans I talk sports with on a regular basis have stopped watching the games, especially on weeknights. Stresses them out too much.

Can't be a real Cyclone fan without a heart murmur and a nut cup!

Sure, they’re beloved and celebrated but they also live under a microscope of criticism and cynicism from how they play to exactly what they do on social media. (But to be completely honest, I’m awfully tired of the standard that they are held to that we often can’t even hold ourselves to when it comes to exactly what we say and how we say it.)
