Eddie Porter?

Do we have and solid and reliable information on his decommit. I don't want to get my hopes up just yet.

Well, his own words on his twitter account are a pretty good indication, but I know what you mean. You don't want to get too excited, because he would be a fantastic pickup, and really solidify what should already be a great corps of linebackers. If things fall through, it would be a real bummer.

It would be huge to get him. We are accumulating some very good size on our defense. Hayes is a 6'6 defensive end, Stokes, a 6'1 cornerback, and hopefully Porter who has a great frame for a MLB at 6'3 245, not to mention Morrissey, Meyers, Aka, etc. We're starting to accumulate players that are physically consistent with other Big 12 teams. I'm very pleased with this year's recruiting class. It's possible that we look back on this class, 4-5 years from now, and see it as a real turning point for Iowa State football.

Him in an ISU jersey on his twitter profile pic pretty much seals the deal for me. I'd be shocked if it isn't true.

I will say this all earily reminds me of the Darks situation when the Cheez left. I believe I remember him holding up a Michigan State jersey on facebook or something at that point. Granted,, the Cheez left him and this is a recruit, not a player, but nevertheless, emotions do run high at first. With this, I'm not completely convinced until everything is confirmed from the ISU side too.

I love this class so far but I dont wanna hype these guys to much right away because I did that before with Jeremiah George, Floyd Mattison, and Rony Nelson and it has been a let down so far with those guys. I still think they are good but just are not playing enough to live up to mine and others expectations.

Jeremiah George is 5'10, Rony Nelson is 5'10, and Mattison is undersized as well. The guys we have coming in look the part. That doesn't mean everything but it doesn't hurt either. 5'10 DE's just can't work in the Big 12. 6'5 DE's? I like!

I mean they are a sophomore and redshirt freshman. Why shouldn't they be all conference by now?

Frick, some of these guys are exceeding Big 12 size. We alreay have the biggest LBs in the league, if Porter does in fact commit we added another one of the biggest LBs in the league. We are going to have 2 6'6"+ DEs. We also added a 6'1" corner, maybe 2 if Rogers plays corner. 6'1 corners are pretty rare and we might have 2 in this class.

I anticipate you will see a lot more from these 3 next year.... Nelson has played a decent amount... George more on special teams this year, I foresee more defensive PT next year, and a huge roll his senior year after Klein and Knott graduate... The problem with Floyd is size, he only weighs in at 200, at that size I could see him at a nickel/dime type situation, but he has not worked his way in, IMO if he is a true LB he need to put on at least 25 lbs......

If you look at the class, there is only one guy under 6' and that is Mutcherson at 5'11". There are 5 DL's in this class ranging from 6'4" to 6'6", which is unheard of at ISU. Height isn't everything, but it sure as hell doesn't hurt. Not trying to take away from the current players, but a 6'6" Ishmael Hayes or a 6'4" Cory Morrissey is going to have a much easier time knocking balls out of the air in a pass happy B12 than a 5'10" DE.

Mattison has been seeing just as much time on special teams as George. He forced the fumble against Uconn that everyone gave credit to Morton. He's also looking pretty big.

Nelson is 6-1 250 pounds that is just as big as the others we have playing DE this season, and George might be short but he is built like a brick S%%% house and is pushing 230. Mattison is small for a LB I give you that but with his athleticism I thought he would be able to contribute more in nickel packages by now.

Listed at 6'1 250 is different than being 6'1 250. Regardless we are arguing over small details. Either way, unless your name is Elvis Dumervil or Dwight Freeney, 6 feet tall is to small to play DE in the Big 12. Rhoads has even said as much. I think he said something to the effect that they will only go after DE's that are 6'3 and taller

While there are definite needs for the team, we are in no position to be too choosy. Take the best player we can get, no matter the position.
In retrospect, I believe this could be Rhoads' first true recruiting class - at least how he envisions classes to be. Majority of HS kids to put into S&C that have athletic ability/speed, but need to add bulk & strength before being Big XII-ready. Combine a sprinkling of JC players ready to contribute on the 2-deeps, and then the program has the depth to compete regularly in the conference.
5 DT/DEs, 3 shortest @ 6'4" each
4 Def Backs, 1 is 5'11" & rest are 6'1"
3 WR, they go 6'1", 6'3", & 6'4"
Hell, our kicker is 6'1" 185 lbs
Actually, only 1 of our current 18 is listed below 6' - Mutcherson @ 5'11" - yet he is heaviest Def Back @ 190#
Really think the last few recruits will be eye-openers & E Porter would only be the start.

Huge news! He will fit Matt's spot next year and we will probably run a 4-3 most of the time. 2013, Knott and Klein will be gone but J. Miller will fill in and our Linebackers should still be stout! Future looks bright for the clones.

Nelson still gets to the QB more than the "taller" DE's we have. Being over 6 foot is nice but it is not needed when you are fast. If CBR wants taller guys im 100% behind it because he has not made any bad choices on the players we have brought in so I guess it is not a bad thing. I was just saying size is not everything but like you guys said it is not a bad thing neither.

What the heck ever happened to Jerimiah George? I know he is playing SP Teams, but he was suppose to kinda be the next big thing?
