That sucks. I had a 3 or 4 day stretch where I was getting a minor headache late in the afternoon right before NYE. I couldn't explain them, glad they have stopped.

My first couple of mornings after NYE my morning coffee also made me feel worse instead of better. I skipped it for a few days, and now it seems fine.

As far as dry January is going. I've made it through this week. Last night was a challenge. It was my last day of being on the road for work, and I had a pretty good day of meetings on Thursday. I definitely wanted to kick back at my hotel last night. I was hoping I could catch a movie to entertain myself but the theatre did have any late enough showings.

I quite caffeine April 1st and had massive headaches for about a week. I was really on it bad though. I only drank Monster Energy drinks and water all week. LIke 5 a day. I knew it was horrible for me. I was drained of energy until my body corrected itself about a couple weeks later. I had one energy drink last week just to see what it did to me. It absolutely made me jittery and I could not sleep later in the night. So Yeah it was a good choice to quit them.

It is kinda funny how it’s by definition a drug, but we talk about it completely differently. It’s not completely harmless but it’s not going to ruin your life like other drugs. Even with coffee we’re learning more about health benefits vs health issues.
Well, no one’s ever crashed their car and killed someone as a result of excessive coffee consumption.

But your main point is spot on.

I quit energy drinks 2 years ago (just because, no real reason) and while I miss them from time to time, I'm not sure what they would do to me now. I still have 2 cups of coffee each morning and a pop or two with lunch, but that's about it. In Highschool I was drinking 2-3 Monsters/day.... the thought of that now makes me want to vomit.

I thought about doing Dry January this year because with parties and gatherings since the beginning of December, seems I'd been hitting the booze a little bit more than normal. I've just decided to do a major cut back. No alcohol during the week and limit it to 2 to 4 drinks for Friday and Saturday combined.

I know booze is bad, but my liquid consumption consists of water, coffee, beer and whiskey (if I drink booze, it's either beer or whiskey, not both on the same day). I was able to cut soda and other sugar or sweetened drinks out of my life completely a few years ago. Now I see people wanting to go coffee as well? My life will not be limited to water. It's just not going to happen, even for a month, especially January. If all I had to drink every day was water, you might as well kill me now, because I'd rather be dead.

I could maybe pull off a Dry June or maybe even July, because there are so many more activities to do outside. In the winter though, sometimes I just need a glass of whiskey to take my mind off of the miserable weather and always being stuck inside.

If my wife offers up a celebratory cocktail tonight, I’m probably not saying no….

Halfway point check-in.

The not so great but understandable:
  • Haven't miraculously become a morning person, truthfully I've slept in a bit more on weekends. Probably part due to not being dehydrated when waking up and also I don't feel guilty since I'm not sleeping off a hangover.
  • Not much weight loss. My food cravings have increased.
  • Definitely some triggers that make me crave a few. At least they have been all "celebratory" triggers at this point. A few times after ISU bball games and last week when I was wrapping up a successful work trip.
The great:
  • I've probably saved $200 already. Previously mentioned week on the road for work that included being delayed in airports plus we had some friends over for dinner where we typically would have furnished the beverages are the bulk of that.
  • There likely would have been 2 or 3 mornings where I would have been moving slow that I've avoided.
  • Not having to feel worried if I'm overindulging or that I'm not going to be 100 in the morning!

This is my 4th January and still going strong this year. I'm down 10 pounds without changing any part of my regular lifestyle so that feels good. Found the Stella NAs, which are bearable, but man this weather makes me want a drink. Calling it quits early next weekend for the Cyclone road trip to Arizona though!

Still going strong. I miss my sugary soda more than booze at this point. The only time I've been tempted so far was when I met family at Chicken Coop last weekend. Man, an IPA would've been delicious.

This weekend I plan to enjoy a gummy or two and watch "Dazed and Confused" with the wife. :eggplant:

So far so good … of course my gummy consumption has increased. 2 NA beers and and a 5 mg gummy hits the spot when hanging with my drinking buddies.
