Downtown Royals Stadium

The Royals just keep shooting themselves in the foot here with unforced errors. They have gone on and on about how important it is for them to be downtown. Then they have talked about the importance of a ballpark village to provide added revenue for the club. Then you find out they are poking around out in Overland Park in an area that already has plenty of dining, office, and retail.

The narrative just keeps changing. And I don't think JoCo in general will be too supportive of hosting a stadium. On to plan X or Y or Z or whatever we are on.

I have no idea what to think about this. Feels like a leverage play to get the downtown sites back on the table. This more of a Truist Park plan as opposed to Target/Coors or Busch that they have been trying to sell.
100%. Especially when an alternative redevelopment site was thrown out at I-70/470 back in February. Only problem is it's in Missouri and the Royals can't leverage the State of Missouri with that site.

LOL my office is currently in the Aspiria campus. That would be such a God-awful spot for a ballpark. There definitely is a ton of vacant space here so they could definitely raze it with relative ease. But considering I’ve never heard that mentioned I have a tough time believing that is really in play. They’ll end up downtown. I also don’t trust Fescoe and Dusty, those guys are clowns

Absolutely laughable Jackson county voted against a new ballpark but voted to raise their property taxes. Idiots.

They never cared about an actual downtown stadium. They just wanted a new stadium they didn't have to pay for.
No, they prefer downtown. But they will obviously go to other sites if downtown isn’t an option.

Downtown is the best place for the stadium and I still hope it ends up there. But as long as they remain in the KC metro, I’ll be cool with wherever they end up.

Probably just a power move to try and get that Missouri legislator to get a bill passed. The old sprint campus would be an absolutely horrible site.
It’s not that bad. Lots of existing parking and close to the interstate. Pretty large site. But to me, it’s missing the cool factor.

Same. Love that Stadium and I am a Red Sox fan. Just love that you can park and everything is easy. Kind of like Jack Trice
It’s a nice stadium. So many great memories there for me. And super convenient personally.

Ownership is clear they are leaving so that ship has sailed. The simple convenience of a stadium on an island between interstates with nothing but parking around it doesn’t work when you want to generate revenue year round from surrounding entertainment district.

The site itself is not bad, just wish it was in another area. Traffic in that area is already crazy, so adding in a stadium and all the related development that comes with it would make it that much worse. This is also very close to large resdential areas, and somewhat high end resdential areas, and I cant imagine those people will want to deal with this. Also, the lack on any adequate public transportation will lead to problems. This on top of the fact that its located on the far south side of the metro, and you make it hard for anyone from the Northland to easily get to a game.
