It’s a nice stadium. So many great memories there for me. And super convenient personally.

Ownership is clear they are leaving so that ship has sailed. The simple convenience of a stadium on an island between interstates with nothing but parking around it doesn’t work when you want to generate revenue year round from surrounding entertainment district.
The thing is the Truman Sports Complex and surrounding area is full of potential development opportunities. KC wants this stadium downtown, so they wont ever work to get that done, and Jackson County, who owns the property, is just a mess right now.

Missouri f’d around and is about to find out. Oh well. They only have themselves to blame when both the Chiefs and Royals are across the border.

I think the Royals could do some great things with a ballpark at the T-Mobile campus. Would not be too different from Truist Park in Atlanta which I’d argue is in a similar location. There’s no reason it couldn’t work in KC. I do think they’d need to do a lot of work to Nall and Metcalf to support the incoming traffic though.

The site itself is not bad, just wish it was in another area. Traffic in that area is already crazy, so adding in a stadium and all the related development that comes with it would make it that much worse. This is also very close to large resdential areas, and somewhat high end resdential areas, and I cant imagine those people will want to deal with this. Also, the lack on any adequate public transportation will lead to problems. This on top of the fact that its located on the far south side of the metro, and you make it hard for anyone from the Northland to easily get to a game.
It’s not any further from the northland than the K is from other areas of the metro. It’s close to the triangle on the east and the gateway on the west and is easy to reach. And there are far more JoCo people going to Royals game than the northland anyway.

I drive through their regularly and I think calling traffic in the area crazy is a wild exaggeration. It flows fine. I’ve never encountered even what would reasonably be considered bad traffic let alone anything crazy. But likely a ballpark would come with some improvements.

It’s really not. Terrible location for entertainment district. There is a reason nobody has built anything in the area other than a Dennys and Taco Bell and that ****** water park. If it was a good location then these developments would have happened in the last 50+ years.

There is far more to it than that. KC politics have allowed those sites to sit dormat, and it would take a vote of the people of Jackson County to do anything with the Sports Complex. I know for a fact several groups have expressed interest in larger developments in the area as there is significant synergy with the stadiums. It's just really hard to get past KC, who rightfully wants their activity downtown, and Jackson County.

As some who loved in OP for 4 years and worked in eastern Jackson County, I can attest to the Johnson County traffic. The K is nearly smack dab in the middle of the metro, so that's not accurate, and there are a lot of fans in the Northland, which has played into the interest in the North KC site.

As someone who currently lives on the Missouri side of KC, I'm not opposed to having them both in Kansas. As long as they stay in the metro, that's all that matters.

In general, it's ok-ish, but as someone that drove their kid from Shawnee to Lees Summit for soccer practice at 5:45 PM, this is on another planet from the truth. I found some very creative routes over the years.

I think we can all agree that as long as we leave it in the hands of the Jackson County tax assessors, it'll all be fine.

The only way it would be any harder to get an Uber or any form of public transit back from the Truman sports complex after a game would be if both stadiums were located on a barge parked in the middle of the Missouri River.

The Athletic today had a great article on the Chiefs plan to build a domed stadium. After reading the article I get the feeling that they are going to get a stadium somewhere in the metro KC area, all comes down to which state is going to give them the better deal to build it there.

Not having them nearby is a bit of a miss for a number of reasons.
People can't get their ish together on regional items like these.

I will be stunned if the Chiefs aren't out by the race track.

It really is going to depend what the Missouri Legislator can get done in its special session coming up. Right now Kansas has a huge upper hand with the STAR bonds.
The ball is in the state of Missouri's. court, they either come up with the money, or the Chiefs move to the Kansas side of the river. What really sucks is if the Royals would move, then building a new Arrowhead at the present site would be perfect, as their would be lots of parking and room for other establishments to draw people to the area. Looking from outside, I would bet they will be playing the 2031 season in the state of Kansas.

I drive through JoCo nearly every day. Traffic isn’t that bad. You should expect cities to be busy during rush hour.

And the K is certainly not right in the middle of the metro. 435 & 70 is the same distance now from OP and Olathe that 435 and Nall would be from the Northland. Of course there are more people in JoCo, and more who attend games. Not sure why you are so concerned over a small subset of people having to drive a little further. That will be the case for any site, as it is currently at the K.

Kansas wants the Royals more than the Chiefs. The stadium costs half as much and you get 80 games a year instead of 10.

But personally I think KS is a better spot for the Chiefs and MO, downtown KC is the best for the Royals (assuming Chiefs move, because Arrowhead is fine where it is too).

Bingo. People like to point out the downside of other locations while ignoring the same for the current location.

I feel like you're dead set on you opinion, and that's fine. We can agree to disagree.

But the Royals want to move downtown and not out by the race track in Kansas. They asked people after the first bond issue that failed why they did not vote for it, and it was very clear that if it was only the Chiefs, it would have passed, but they were not willing to pay for the Royals also. KC has always been a Chiefs towns first and foremost and the Royals are a distant second.
