Dominykas Pleta Commits

Hamilton is probably the only one who would have eventually had a role. Eli King has had an ok career at mid major level. All the rest have been pretty meh so far
King is a good player for UND. He averages 12 and 6. He could absolutely be an 8th guy off the bench for us. I think Hamilton could start for us and slide Lipsey to PG. He’s going to get a bag from a P5 this summer.

Watson was good for us when needed. I was sorry to see him go, and I haven’t given up on Rock yet. Billiew seems like a disappointment, but he gets a lot of minutes for Wake. Indrusaitus does seem like a miss.

Just cause guys got recruited over or left after 1 year doesn’t make them a miss.

I'm not worth a s**t in terms of analysis re: a dudes future potential.
Talk to me re: Pleta, within 2-ish years.
10, 20, 30% better?
JP4CY mentioned leg strength.
Logical, but beyond that???
If Pleta stays in college for four years, I think his floor is above average starting big man. His ceiling is All American. He’ll be 24 his senior year. He’s tall, fairly athletic, smart, and this staff develops big men extremely well.

It's been fun to watch Pleta develop over the course of this season. He has really become aggressive since conference play started and really attacks the glass for rebounds. Also has become a lot more confident at both ends of the court. Earlier in the season he was a little more gun-shy I thought and now he doesn't hesitate he just attacks.

This entire freshman class has been a hit so far. Toure is a great on ball defender. If he can improve his shooting and finish more of the drives that will really elevate his game. Batemon keeps growing as a scoring threat off the bench. He has a bit of a funky release on his shot but so did Haliburton and that turned out pretty well. All 3 are in line to see a big increase in role next season after we lose this senior class and potentially Milan too if he declares for the NBA draft.
Agree about this freshman class. Batemon is good enough to be a starter if we weren’t so deep on guards and is just a pure scoring machine. He’s going to average double digit points next season with so many guys graduating and Momcilovic possibly going pro.

Toure is a defensive genius and with an improved shot he could be an NBA talent next season. Toure looked a lot better on offense yesterday against Kansas and I expect he will make a jump offensively next season.

Pleta is the one I’m most excited to see next season. He’s definitely getting more aggressive, less sloppy, and is still a tiny dude. With some weight training in the offseason he could be a big weapon next year.

The question will be whether we can afford all three. Toure will command big bucks. Batemon might think he needs big bucks, too. Not sure where Pleta will fall, cost-wise.

Buchanan is likey going to want more too. Lipsey and Jefferson open up a lot of money though. Momcilovic too if he goes pro.

Pleta is hardly a "tiny dude" at 6-11 240 lbs. He's already 21 years old but he could still add a few pounds to his frame with weight training. Buchanan is listed at 6-10 235 and he is 22 years old so they are pretty much the same stature.

Toure just oozes potential to me. He's very athletic and has good instincts, just needs to add a consistent jumper and finish drives and he'd be a NBA lotto pick IMO. Batemon also has a lot of raw skills too. Toure is going to be the PG next year and Batemon will be the 2 guard so both will have a lot of opportunity to take on bigger roles and be the backcourt leaders.

I love our freshman class.

JMO, I don't see Toure being a lottery pick. Unless he massively improves his overall offensive game. Yes obviously his defense is great but guards that go that high (at his size) are good defenders AND they can create a shot at all 3 levels. Good news is, he's gonna have every opportunity to improve and I hope like hell it is here!

He's shooting 32% right now. Lipsey shot 20% his freshman season, so Toure is already ahead of Lipsey on 3-pt shooting. It wouldn't take too much improvement for him to shoot 40% next year.

It's been a breath of freshman air. TJs track record hasn't been great since his return as our HC with more misses (King, Watson, Biliew, Rock, Hamilton, Fish, Indrusaitus, Pierce) than hits (Hunter, Lipsey, Milan). The game has changed to the point where things like this don't matter as much, but still, it's nice to see 3 freshmen playing well for the future strength of the program. I don't care how transfer heavy things have become now, having solid 3-4 year guys come in and be the backbone of your program is still a big deal. Each one of these guys has been productive, yet each one has limitations or obvious spots needed to improve on that you don't really worry about them going anywhere next year at least.

Batemon looks like he will have a nice offensive game for years to come. My only worry with him is his body, it seems like he is a bit awkward high waisted/short arms and on the thinner side. Seems like the thin part can be addressed in the weight room but the awkwardness might take a couple more offseasons of dedicated footwork training.
Batemon has short arms?

Pleta doesn't look 240 to me, but I'll take your word for it. Either way, he puts on some muscle he's going to be a deadly force.

Toure also changed his shooting motion coming into this season so this is the first full season of doing it. Another off season to perfect it or tweak it slightly will do him good.

Back to Pleta, he has a great build for a freshman. Probably has 20 pounds on guys his height that I would consider skinny.

He's not your typical freshman though as far as body build. He's already 21 and played professionally in Germany before he came to ISU. He still have some frame to build out but its not like he's your typical 18 year old freshman.
