Does CF hurt recruiting and team morale?

Do the student athlete's really check message boards? And why would they what we have to say?

It was only a matter of time until someone brought this one up.

BLAME THE FANS!
BLAME DONATION LEVELS!
BLAME CF!
BLAME OUR LOSING HISTORY!
BLAME ANYONE BUT OUR LAME DUCK COACHING STAFF!

Its all blame and counter productive... kind of the point. The pseudo support system that is message boards.

Can't speak for the team, but it sure hurts my morale and I'm sure it hurts site recruiting.

Didn't ISU almost lose Nigel Tribune to Indiana due to the message boards?

It wouldn't surprise me if it hurts recruiting. In fact, I'd say we know it does or at least can based on the Nigel Tribune situation during his recruitment.

All of the recruits I've talked to said "Who are you? And why are you asking me questions?"

I'll say this: The negativity that comes with the message board culture even wears on me - and it's how I make a living.

BUT, any big time program that's worth a damn in has message boards. Think this is bad? Scour an SEC program's 10-15 fan site. These things aren't going anywhere. At least here you have Iowa State people running it who legitimately want Iowa State to do well.

This site is far from perfect but when it comes to keeping the inappropriate stuff off, our moderation team/level is as top notch as they come for a free site. That's our goal at least.

Recruiting? Maybe. Recruiting is weird and creepy and I'm sure a lot of guys are searching for their name to see what fans are saying about them.

Team Morale? I doubt it.

Yes they do. We nearly lost a recruit a couple of years ago who is a young starter now on our team due to negative outcry from irate fans thinking this young man was not worthy of a scholarship offer.......because he did not have enough stars. The young man played and started as a true freshman.

Negativity hurts. It does not help. It hurts morale. It hurts our program. Explain how negativity and calling for Rhoads to be fired helps the team.

I agree but in the grand scheme of things, if CF is the final straw for a recruit, there are likely some other problems associated with said recruit. As far as morale goes, these guys need to be accountable for the product on the field.
