It's the "5 star culture verses 5 star talent" argument. Obviously you have a huge advantage if you have higher ranked players coming out of high school. It would help raise ISU's ceiling to get higher rated recruits but they've proven you can take majority 3* guys and with the right culture and coaching you can make them a force that can beat top-5 teams any given year.

I don’t know about that. It’s pretty tough to make the CFP.

Happy End of Old Year!

I'm really looking forward to Saturday. Although I have no expectation for an Oregon win, (I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I think ISU is the better team. Oregon isn't a team; they're still just a collection of football players) I don't care. Watching the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday will bring some small semblance of normality to an other crazy ten months. I'm just gonna enjoy those few hours, and hope I don't have to turn it off.

O.K. Now I'll start bringing the trash.

After this game I will be wishing Iowa State all the best, both on the field and in the living rooms of talented teenage boys.

I’ll leave the topic alone, I’m being annoying. But for a Parthian shot I’d like to point out that Breece Hall is responsible for a lot of those awards and honors, and he’s one of the four 4-star recruits on the ISU roster.
You aren’t being annoying. Love the good natured bantering.

Honestly I'm getting more and more disappointed we ended up with Oregon as an opponent. It doesn't sound like your team wants to be there. I wish you'd all have declined the bowl invite so we could get a team that didn't have all of the opt outs and built in excuses. It's a no win situation I guess, Iowa State wins and it was opt outs, Iowa State loses and well, we lost.

I live in Portland too, so I was mildly excited to begin.

I didn't think it was possible but, the bulk of these duck fans other than @bisonduck have a football IQ below your typical tavernhawk.

LMAO. Riiight.

The opt outs were prior to the start of the season when the Pac canceled the season.. I’m not sure where you are getting the impression that these players don’t want to be there. Weird assumption.

If you live in Portland then you understand that this hasn’t been a normal football season on the West Coast. I’ve been excited to watch and rewatch every Ducks game, but it hasn’t felt normal and the CFB season in whole has felt contrived. Like a rip off with an asterisk.

I’m sorry we disappointed you. Our guys didn’t envision ending their season with an opponent like Iowa State, but they’re not quitting just because they didn’t get a marquee opponent. I have no idea what the game will be like, but I’m sure it will be worth a watch.

I don't think it will get to 40, just because the haves needs some teams to beat up on. Nobody's fans are going to be happy having 20 teams at .500 or under and 20 teams at .500 or over, if that makes sense.
I think this was proven this year. How many b10 and sec records look like @#$& due to playing conference games only.

A thread about mocking their mascot gets 843 posts! Did it get hijacked and turned into another random thoughts thread? If there is any substance to this thread, could someone summarize it?
I'm not sure I can give you a good summary as I have been in/out of this thread. It started out amicably (still is I think, had a short light punching session half-way thru, ended quickly). Ducks fans have been good, largely respectful, and show a good deal of football knowledge. They've been good to have around, this being the what 45th page so far.

Again about half-way thru some including the OP thought maybe we were being too nice to each other (??), and changed the thread title from Discuss the Ducks to Dis the ducks. Still amicable though.

Some of the toughies on both sides will likely ruffle feathers (no pun intended) a little more as game time is now close at hand.

Personally I'm impressed by many Cyclone fans that/who have greater knowledge than I and share Cyclone history and current team with opposing fans, and vice versa.

Still duck season. Happy New Year all!
Go Cyclones.

Question to ISU and Duck fans (since Ducks here and more experience with Bowls) . Does the winning Bowl team get more $$ for their conference to split, than the loser? Or do both teams split the bowl payout equally?

The payout is the same for both teams.

Here is a good article discussing bowl revenue.

Well Florida didn’t technically quit either...

Maybe they should do something like that in attempt to keep players from opting out.

Winning team gets more money or some sort of other incentive for players.

I think UF only had one defensive starter on opt out and UF didn’t belong in the same field. Trask was completely lost and it didn’t matter who was gone.

OSU was struggling horribly in the Big 12 down the stretch and they beat Miami. UT was fortunate not to be 4-5 in the conference, has a ton of opt outs, had Ehlinger out the second half, and they dismantle Colorado.

The Big 12 is good. That is all.
OSU had Sanders, Hubbard and Wallace hurt down the stretch. For the bowl game, Hubbard had opted out, Wallace opted out at halftime and Sanders still not 100%.
