Crazy year. I think some teams and players are just tired, tired of being so careful, being in the bubble. USC case in point, others.
On a normal year, yes maybe some incentives might be considered. Could you possibly keep some of the better players from opting out of Bowl games if there were some $$ incentives for that school? Maybe. For the player? Doubtful it would happen or be big enough to out weigh risk of playing for some players, but still.
Interesting to also read that some teams don't make much of a profit or maybe even lose money by participating in a Bowl game. Well to me it looks like they could sure cut some of their lavish expenses? Again some incentives could be considered to do so. The more net profit the school or conference makes, some of that comes back to the participating school, team, players, coaches.
Ghastly to think some free market incentives really might or could work. Maybe they would help money from just getting wastefully spent?
