Diamond Head Classic bracket released

i'm glad we're finally in an ESPN tournament, but man, this field is an RPI killer. we have to win it.

The field isn't THAT bad. Boise State is a tournament team, Saint Mary's is always going to be decent. Many are picking Oregon State to be a sleeper in the Pac-12. Akron is the MAC favorite. It's not a great field by any means but it isn't an RPI killer either.

I agree; if we are going to compete for a top 4 finish in the Big XII this year, we really have no business not winning that tournament.

Boise St probably is most likely to come out of the other half of the bracket. They will be a top 30-40 team next season.

Speaking of this season, when will we know our non-con schedule? Isn't it usually sometime in August?

Whats the tounrey Iowa is going to be in? That one is loaded. Would be surpised if Iowa came out with one win in it.

Definitely not an RPI killer. As long as we win it all. Better than playing a bunch of 250+ teams at home like other teams in this state *cough* like to do.

Boise State was playing really small at the end of last year. They have some fantastic shooters and are returning their best players. That would be a fantastic matchup. It's that an easy path to get there though, because Akron, George Mason, and Oregon State all apperar to be teams that could beat ISU on a bad day.

Yeah, if ISU wins the first 2 games, they're probably looking at two games versus the RPI Top 100, and one game versus RPI Top 50.

Being the highest seed in the tournament puts the pressure on ISU to win, but it's also a great opportunity to go out and take care of business. 3 early wins against decent teams on ESPN over Christmas will be a great start to the season!

They may not be big names but there are some decent teams in that tournament and ISU will have to come ready to play. Four tournament teams are in it and South Carolina and Oregon Sate, while not good last year, return some good players. If they play well they should win.

Sure some of these teams are not from so-called "power" conferences, but Boise State, St. Mary's, and Akron for example were well documented tough teams last year. Oregon State will be improved. Guess I'm not seeing the downside. As for that 'other tournament', there are some avg. teams from power conferences that probably arent better than the ones mentioned above. Who's great besides Kansas in that one?

the problem is that other than boise st, there are no "good" losses in that tourney. and the only way we'd even play boise st most likely is to win the first two. the tourney is ok, our bracket, not so hot.

george mason returns everyone, boise returns everyone (and made the ncaas) st. mary's will be decent - i get that. but its not like we're looking at VCU, Georgetown, and Michigan like K-state is in PR.
