On the road...
i said 3rd best, behind Lin and Marshall, and before Lin I said he had a chance to start. Far-fetched, maybe, but I never claimed he would be an all-star, and the MVP, and the Lakers would be champions, and he would be finals MVP. That's ISU blinders.

The last time someone said they didn't take me serious on this board was like 2 years ago when I thought I was cool trying to troll. I realized it adds nothing. Since then, I have been nothing but serious and no one has said anything until now.

Fair enough. Like I mentioned I stopped taking you serious at that time and actually had you blocked for awhile. I'll be honest I don't post much on the main board anymore for a lot of reasons but mostly due to the fact that this place is impossible most of time. Normally I don't getting into ******* matches and I will stop this one now.

Take it for what it is worth, I hope DeAndre beats out everyone on that pathetic roster. I hate the Lakers more than any franchise but would love nothing more than for him to succeed...just like every other Cyclone that has come through Ames. Whether he gets his time with the Lake Show or another franchise in the NBA, I don't care. All I am saying is it's going to be incredibly hard for him to make that roster. NOT because he is "worse"(which I never once said) but because of financial reasons and the fact that owners and GM's in the league are idiots and never want to be wrong.

I can see both sides of the argument. We've all seen what Kane is able to do. However, he'll need the minutes to prove that and I just don't think he will get those minutes with the Lakers.
No, you've all seen what he is able to do at the college level. The NBA is a different planet. Even the bad NBA players are better than most of the college players these guys faced. I have seen a million great college players never able to crack a lineup in the NBA. Having watched every minute of Kane's season last year will cloud your vision of him whether you want it to or not. It's not being a homer, it's just failing to recognize the huge leap in ability and knowledge at the next level.

I'll be honest, I realistically don't expect him to tear it up at the next level like he did in college. I think he would be a good assist guy and decent rebounder for a guard in the NBA, but nothing like the near triple double numbers from college. At the NBA level I would expect him to average like 8pts, 5assists, 4rebounds per game (if given at least 20-24 minutes playing time as a backup). I think the biggest problem for DeAndre would be if they want to utilize him as a SG. I think he is the kind of player that works better with the ball in his hands than as a spot up option.

See, that's what I mean. Most college fans have no concept of what the level of play truly is at the NBA level. You think Kane would get 5 assists per game in 20-24 minutes off the bench? TONY PARKER averaged 5.7 assists per game in 29 minutes per game as the starter for the best offensive team in the NBA last year. Kyrie Irving, the PG that just signed a max deal? 6 assists per game in 35 minutes a game. College fans simply cannot imagine our favorite players going to the NBA and averaging 1 or 2 assists a game and only getting a few buckets in garbage minutes if they are even able to cling on to the end of a team's roster in the first place.

Well the difference is that both Tony Parker and Kyrie Irving are score-first PG, they're nowhere near the assist leaders in the NBA. Kane is not going to be looking to score that much. He'll be looking to create assists and drive to the basket and kick out to shooters.

felt bad for kane last night that he was on the court with kendall marshall and jordan clarkson in some bizarre 3 PG lineup.

it was uncanny how similar it was watching kane struggle in that game a laker, just like matt thomas struggled as a frosh for us. two players who are used to having the ball in their hands, best players on their team, and suddenly they have to just stand in the corner/wing and hope they get a pass from their teammates. (good luck with that in nba summer league!).

Well from what I had read on the Lakers fan site they are considering more for an immediate potential help as back up shooting guard and a future backup help at PG when Nash inevitably gets hurt. Makes sense they would put him out their with marshall or clarkson. Thing about Kane is he can play the 1, 2 or 3. He is really just an inch shorter than Ejim (didn't Ejim measure out at 6'5 at the draft workouts)

I'm collecting bets for a ZJohnson vs. BallSoHard4Cy showdown. Maybe I should open up a voting thread to see who everyone thinks would win...

I don't like the facts here, but I have to agree.
It's a whole different world, and not any sort of knock on DeAndre if he doesn't make it. Almost nobody actually makes it in the NBA.

Was about to post something very similar. The NBA is a completely different game. He is not that much bigger than anyone out there anymore, and the guys he is bigger than are ultra quick.

He's guarding Wilbekin right now, and they have him camping out in the corner on offense (which is not where he should be). We'll see how he does.

I think it's funnier he thought Kane would average 4 rebounds in 20-24 minutes. 8 rebounds per 48. ROFL.

The Lakers are SO bad. Just got out scored 32-10 in the 2nd quarter. I don't remember DeAndre taking a shot in the quarter, and can probably count on 3 fingers the number of times he touched it.

Kendall Marshall is getting the most PG minutes, followed by Jordan Clarkson. Kane is getting no minutes there. None. I've been watching since the middle of the first quarter, and I've seen him make 3 moves to the hoop, in order:

1. Banked in a jumper from the elbow (the bank was not on purpose)
2. Air balled a 3
3. Stripped trying to bull his way into a layup

Only played approximately 2 minutes in the 3rd quarter. One defensive rebound. Other than a last second 3 quarter court attempt. he touched the ball once on offense, and dribbled it off his thigh for a TO.

Iowa State got some love for a bit though.

Just tuning in, is it looking good or bad right now for him?

DeAndre? He's playing out of position (just doing what he's told), and not doing it well. Only has 2 points, from what I can remember, has not been strong with the ball (when he has the opportunity to touch it) and hasn't shot well (when he has shot...maybe 3 shots?).

I realize this is the summer league, but the Lakers are horrid. There is no semblance of "team". Passing, when it happens (not often) is terrible, they are not screening for each other and if Randle or Clarkson touch it, it's going up. The Sixers are mopping the floor with them.
