Does the AD have compromising videos of him or something? Just because he had a meltdown doesnt mean he can stop someone leaving for a job that will pay 5x what he can.
No, I'm just letting you know their AD wasn't happy at all the last time a coach moved on after two years. There could be some loyalty that we don't know about.

if jp doesn’t do anything about it hilton will be over half filled with hawkeye and jayhawk fans when we play them next year. what a disgusting thought that would be. so sad
This is what you are worried about?

It’s a higher paying job with much better facilities, recruiting, national exposure, and all the other perks of a power 5 job with the added benefit that we’re the largest university in his home state, a 40 minute drive away from his current job. In addition, there are going to be a lot fewer coaching vacancies this year. I’d say yes.
Getting a coach cheap better not be a factor. If he wins 1st year, isu will have to pay him anyway. Don't you guys get that by now?

Medved left after one year, this is DeVries’ third. I don’t think that DeVries has been there long enough to turn down the kind of money we can offer because of his loyalty to the program or university

Does anyone have real inside info that a coaching change is likely to happen at the end of this season? Seems like everyone here is just speculating.
I am purely speculating. I would also like to know if there’s been anything concrete on this front

I still maintain that McDermott was the right coach at the wrong time. He walked into a ********, and his best season was his last. He has matured a lot at Creighton, and consistently been a contender for the Missouri Valley/Big East title throughout his tenure.
Definitely. Remember the team Mac THOUGHT he was going to coach when he took the job- Stinson, Blaylock, Taggert- those guys didn’t all leave ISU on their own. WM and Arch were pissed they got let go, the reason given for the change, and who got the job after him. There was no love lost between the two staff’s- remember the game at UNI where WM was yelling down the sideline at Mac...and it wasn’t Merry Christmas. They drove those kids out and Mac and his staff spent the first two years just filling out a roster.

I don't have any inside info, but at this point I don't see how a change can't be made. This is a flaming train wreck going off a cliff.

And I write that as someone who used to be a passionate defender of Prohm. I want it to work out for him and his program, but it is clear to me that is not going to happen.

Medved burned some bridges around here, and I think JP is close to Hardin. I'd be surprised if he was a candidate.

Same. I was the lone defender of Prohm in my family for the first four years. I finally saw the light last year. The lightbulb moment was actually in KC last time we won the Big 12 Tourney. I was already leaning towards 'he might not be the right guy...' in my head and while it was awesome we won that title I also felt this 'well fuckk' thought because I thought it probably was fools gold and was going to prolong the inevitable and be bad for the program in the long run.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Stinson and Blalock declared for the draft before WM was fired.

This view is far too biased towards McDermott. He was in season 4 and won 4 whole conference games. This despite having 3 guys who at least got a cup on NBA coffee. The final season roster was filled with upperclassmen. He didn't have a winning record a single season at ISU. ISU could have given him another 4 seasons and I don't think you'd see a meaningfully different result. Sometimes folks need a change of scenery.

I don't understand this thought of Devries being budget friendly. When a coach is hot their price tag goes up because they get the choose the job they want.
I only say that as a point of comparison knowing that he's getting a relatively-small salary from Drake, compared to the likes of Oats and Otz already being 7 digits a year, right now. Their floors are higher by default. That said, Smith is only slightly above DeVries, so they're similar in-that regard. DeVries arguably has the least high level coaching experience/most to prove at big-time level as well, from a HC perspective.

he has to be fired either this year or next year, firing him next year only saves you 2m vs canning him next year...2m is peanuts...it’s a sunk cost, which is how JP will look at it, steve will be gone barring some miracle

I heard DeVries will likely stay at Drake until the Iowa job opens up.
