Who says DeVries wants to leave Drake? The fanbase at Drake just wants winning seasons, and going to NCAA tourney every once in a while. If he can win a few regular season crowns, beat UNI on a regular basis and graduate kids, that makes the Drake people happy. There is nowhere near the pressure on him there will be at ISU and he saw what happened with McDermott when he made the move from UNI to ISU. Also, he has been around Ben Jacobson who could have easily left UNI but stayed.
DeVries won’t have much pressure at all at Iowa State for a few years. Getting paid over 2 million is quite a bump from the $400k he is getting now.

Unfortunately, I agree. And if they stink again next year (that Hunter kid is going to be fantastic), that will be it. Then TJ will be the next coach.
Uh, I don't think that Cyclone basketball godfather, Gary Thompson, would sign off on TJ until he actually does something. And believe me, Gary Thompson's approval will be needed.

Do you understand the financial impact of the lower parquet, which is filled with season ticket donors who pay $10,000 plus for those seats being empty for next year?
Fair point. The buyout and a new contract for a coach might be too much though. I just hope it won’t be in 2022.

I dont see Devries leaving Drake. Their AD just had a nuclear meltdown a couple years ago when Medved left early. Something like "We are only interested in employing coaches who want to be the coach at Drake University".
Does the AD have compromising videos of him or something? Just because he had a meltdown doesnt mean he can stop someone leaving for a job that will pay 5x what he can.

Basketball is second, yes. But that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. I promise you Jamie hasn’t forgotten how basketball carried the athletic department for half a decade.

Basketball is important, but we'd be in deep **** if it ever carried the athletic department.
