Dan Winters leaving WHO

It definitely can be done. Even now people watch meteorologists covering storms on YouTube. I watched Max Velocity who lives in Florida.
When it's a wide spread event though they all tend to focus on the largest system, not a state or area within said state. They provide a great resource, but not the same as the local broadcast.

Give it time and it will happen in the DSM market. The media conglomerates don’t care about local weather/news- just whatever is going to give them the most money in their pockets. If iHeart didn’t care about ruining what was a good local radio station in KXNO, Nexstar and Hearst aren’t going to care about WHO and KCCI
In the long term, possibly yes. I will say there is a dramatic difference between those last two corporate owners you mentioned.

This is true, good point
granted there are also times local broadcasts do this as well but it will at least be more localized, where as the Max Velocity or Ryan Hall types if there are multiple states with storms that day will follow the biggest current one while mentioning the others, Compared to a local channel bouncing back and forth between storms within the state.

I feel like it won't be long and KCCI will take over ABC's news broadcasts much like WHO took over for Fox.
That is a completely different arrangement that is more driven by the ownership of the individual station and not the affiliate.

Just a report, but if true shows that public outrage can still work, much like the first time everyone got fired from KXNO. Hopefully Allen Media doesn’t screw this up like iHeart did, but little confidence in that happening

much like kxno, the writing is probably on the wall for the long term

Yeah, this is sort of a "win" in the immediate term, in that it gives everyone time to find a plan.

But in reality, Allen just made the mistake of doing it all at once, rather than slowly winding it down via attrition so that people don't really notice until it's gone, which is probably what will happen now.

Isn't this what KDSM has been doing with WHO for a while now?

Just saw where Friday was Bree Sullivans last day as morning meteorologist for WOI. Didn’t she just start with them in November? Channel 5 seems to be a train wreck.

Have weather channel and AccuWeather apps, but local weather gives better short term outlooks and better updates. Of course, that’s just me.
