Dam to Dam

My gun time was 1.39. I had my watch going for chip time and I think I was around 1.36. I had a goal of 1.45.

My heel is bleeding from where my wet sock and shoe rubbed. Otherwise, I feel pretty good.

My goal is to get in next years 5k. I intervalled 5k ok the treadmill today at the gym. What is considered a decent pace to target?

Knocked off around 30 minutes from last years time. Of course I was almost 3 bills last year and am down to 250 and that helped a lot. My knees are killing me but had a blast. I missed the rain once it stopped. Only casualty appears to be my iPod Touch. I had it in a zipplock bag but it appears to have gotten wet.

I passed a guy around mile 10 that had chaffed his inner legs so bad blood was running all the way down his legs I felt really bad for him.

How old are you and how long have you been running for starters? For example, for someone my age, 20:00 might be a REALLY good 5k, but I'd look at that disgusted since I've been running for 7ish years and was an all-stater in track and cross country.

Put your iPod in rice or oatmeal ASAP and leave it in there for a couple days.

Its not blood, it is speed juice.
Or at least that's what my Crew coach called it when my calves got torn up from slide bite.

Did anyone use gels? If so, how beneficial are they?

I was fine until about mile 10 where I mildly started to cramp up and my pace slowed. I took in a couple cups of water and was fine for the remainder of the race. I didn't think dehydration would be a factor for me as I was consuming about 208 ounces of water per day for the last week.

Didn't do the race but its kind of cuspy whether or not to use a gel for 20k. I probably would use one around the half way if I were racing, but probably doesn't matter too much either way.

I saw a guy walking around the finish area wearing a white shirt with each nipple bleeding through the shirt? I was happy to have only sore knees after seeing that.

My uncle gave me these things called Nip Guards that are basically adhesive pads that go over your nipples to prevent chaffing. They seem to be pretty legit. I'm sure any running/fitness store would have them. He also gave me some of that body glide, so I'll be trying that out.

What's w/ all this talk about nip guards and body glide? A $.05 bandaid will work just fine.

I finished my first DAM to DAM. I started cramping so bad at about mile 7 that I didnt even see my final time but I know it was over 2 hrs. I'm mad at myself because I was drinking last night at the packet pickup then a little afterward. I learned my lesson though and will not be drinking the night before a long race like that.

Oh well my goal was to finish. I have never ran more than 8.5 miles before today.

Anyone have any good suggestions for ways to track runs? Some Ipods have GPS in them don't they?

Did the 5K today with my wife. We did this to see if we liked the event and if we should train for next years 20K. We absolutely had a blast and are going to run the 20K next year. Wish we would have brought down our son with to run in the 4 year old 100 yard dash and see Cy.

We are going to run the Midnight Madness in Ames. My wife runs alot more than I do and she is going to run the 10K and I will run the 5K since I am just starting off. But I think we may have found a new hobby for us.

My favorite comment from the whole event was when my wife and I were walking around afterwards and she was noticing all of the fit men and women walking around, her exact comment was this "this is definitely not the state fair crowd". I about spit out my beer when she said that.

I saw a lot of bloody nipples. Only my right nipple started bleeding. Bandages over the nips next year.

I'm thinking a good pair of compression shorts will be in order next year. Had some leg chaffage, but not like the dude who was bleeding. That sounds really painful.

The farthest I'd run while training was 8 miles, so I'm a little surprised that my muscles aren't sore today. I'm really, really tired though.

I wore Nike compression shorts for the first time on a run for the D2D. They worked GREAT. Especially, given the rain. I took the advice from earlier in this thread and put body glide on nipples, armpits, between toes, etc. and I'd say it probably did a good job.
