I agree with the comment regarding alcohol...this has been a mind-numbing, crazy position by JP over the years. At this point its millions in lost revenue.Great, ISU vs Iowa in anything is going to draw a good crowd, now tell us about the crowd for a game with Colorado or KSU? If they were charging $5 bucks a head to get in and parking what are they missing? A couple thousand bucks in a department with a budget over over $125 million. You want to bring in extra money, they could make more by selling alcohol at these events than charing admissions.
The super super senior route, admirable. Was in band for six years. Never paid to watch a high school game.
Yep. Actually, our junior high band played most of the varsity games, too.The super super senior route, admirable.
They don't charge the players either for being at their game lol.Was in band for six years. Never paid to watch a high school game.
Tommy Boy?Was in band for six years. Never paid to watch a high school game.
That is exactly what the women's teams are for. Without Title IX none of them would exist. They don't charge the players either for being at their game lol.
People who are going to the softball and soccer games will probably go either way if they had to pay $10 or not. Wouldn't make much of a difference in the bottom line but can only help.
Not charging for attendance feels like they're admitting defeat, that the women's teams are here just to exist to exist. That the programs are so pathetic they're not even going through the effort of charging people to be there.
I used to just love going to kids events in multi million dollar facilities named for banks and still having to spend $7 a person to watch 12 year olds play bball for an hour.
Paying for ANYTHING just seems the norm now.
Yep. It devalues the sport involved; that it’s not worth money to watch. They don't charge the players either for being at their game lol.

I have a middle schooler in sports. And starting in Middle school every school in our conference charges to get into games. Not all. Been to several where they don’t charge.

Not to mention a couple thousand dollars means a lot more to the high schools.Yeah, I don't feel like you can compare high school sports to the more minor nonrevenue college sports as some are doing. With high school sports you've got a captive audience of parents, families, friends, etc that you can grab money from because they are going to attend to support them. There's going to necessarily be a lot less of that at the college level. I imagine for things like softball, soccer, etc ISU is just hoping that some people show up and occasionally buy some things from a concession stand.
After you get in, walk 75 feet and pay for your concessions with cash.My nephews middle school charges for football and basketball and they don't take cash.
Local conference in north Iowa doesn’t charge for middle school. Seems to be a bigger city thing when i encounter itI have a middle schooler in sports. And starting in Middle school every school in our conference charges to get into games.
There may be a few out there, but the vast majority are charging, for everything, from middle school on up.
Hell the school I went to growing up charges for band and choir concerts etc.
The one I was speaking about is in a small town of a couple hundred.Local conference in north Iowa doesn’t charge for middle school. Seems to be a bigger city thing when i encounter it
