Cyhawk postgame thread

Wow…read BHGP analysis of the game today…what a bunch of whiny excuse makers. No objectivity at all. One example…

”It seemed like the Hawkeyes had gotten a stop on the next drive, but an absolutely horeshit gift from the officials giving Matt Campbell a timeout when he clearly had not called it in time, kept the drive alive.”

And that wasn’t the worst of it. That Matt Cabel is an embarrassment.
He definitely called it in time it easy to see.

Iowa fans were that way before Hayden even if they were bad. They were still convinced that they were far and above ISU to a point where they wouldn't play ISU unless it was at Kinnick.

Many of them really don't know that Iowa wasn't even that good under Fry, just decent with like two really good teams if that.
I had a different experience altogether. I remember ISU fans watching Iowa basketball under Lute and supporting them. ISU basketball at the time was miserably bad. The first two CyHawk games in Iowa City were very welcoming in my experience. I had a buddy at Iowa so I went to the games and all of the Iowa parties the night before welcomed us. My later experiences starting In the late 90’s were the opposite. I’ll never go there again.

is iowa football even a good job anymore? its likely the 10th or 11th best job in the big 10. their NIL situation is complicated, expectations are unrealistic, and you would be replacing a legend. i am not sure who wants that.
I will do it for the low low price of $4M annual, and only a 2 year buyout!

Was CClark there, and if so how many times did they show her on tv?

Actually might have been a fun rivals thing if she had been there and sat with Haliburton since they are both playing for the same franchise owner. Could have been a fun pre-game interview (see below) with both teasing each other some like a Purdy/Kittle thing. She's not playing but traveling with the Fever.

BTW, they are friends, text and double date frequently. I've seen Tyrese at Fever games but it was only today that I looked and found they are friends.

I read the whole comment section while touching myself inappropriately.

There was a picture of Tyrese, his fiance, Caitlin and Patrick McCaffrey together and my favorite twitter comment was: “I know nothing about Tyrese’s lady but I’m willing to bet that McCaffrey is the 4th best basketball player in that photo.” :D

^This. And it's all on Fry and his rivals hate stuff and how he preached the Texas style hate your rivals. Sat in the Dana House den on 1970 and actually pulled for Iowa in the NCAA game. Year or so before we were all pulling for Drake. Fry blew that all up. Also, we didn't play each other back than.

As I've gotten older, and with Fry rotting in his grave, I've lightened up a LOT on the whole rivalry thingy. Still do want to stop by his graves some day since peeing on it is on my bucket list. Hey, I said I had let go of MOST rival hate stuff, not all of it. ;)

Yep. Then as we lost our coach, they had Fry, we had friggin Jim Criner, those 4 years still give me the shivers. Iowa took off while we sank to the absolute depths, took many years to recover.

I really like the way the schedule sets up now, but of course being 3-0 helps.

We go to Arkansas State and then get a bye before Arizona comes to town at the end of September - hopefully there's some weather that game.

Then there's the two-game road trip to Cincy and Colorado - we should be a touchdown-plus favorite in both of those games, but I think winning those two is the key to making the BigXII championship.

Then after the second bye we get BYU and ASU at home in late October/ early November. Tough games, ASU especially, but they didn't look great yesterday and they weather should definitely play to our advantage.

Then @TCU for the only game where we might be an underdog - although that depends a lot on TCU, who have only played 1 game so far, beating SMU and @ASU later this month. We really don't know how good they are going to be yet - beating the Fighting Belicheks might not mean much.

Then we end with Kansas at home and @OSU. OSU could be on an interim coach at that point, and will be playing only for pride, so hopefully they fall apart.

10-2 should be the floor with that schedule and how the first couple weeks have gone. Hope the team can keep the week-to-week focus (and get the running game rolling!)

One time when I was bored, I took Iowa's winning percentage under Fry and Iowa State's winning percentage under the numerous head coaches. Iowa's winning percentage during that time was slightly better than Iowa State's (if I did my math right).

If someone wants to correct me on it, please do. But I agree with madguy30, Fry had a couple of excellent years, but the rest were like 7-5, 8-4 type years
I think the lingering pain from those years were the score run-ups against us, giving us the impression of a better record for him.

Haven't rewatched yet, but here's my initial take aways a day later:

- The DL played out of their minds - especially Orange and McDonough. They consistently won and didn't let the Iowa backs through the line cleanly all day
- Marcus Neal is a stud, he was everywhere all day. I thought Tre Bell and Tshawn James were very good too
- That Rocco doesn't have a turnover through 3 games is a remarkable feat. He didn't have a great game, but he controlled it and didn't make mistakes
- We played maybe our 'C' game with a lot of bad mistakes- it really says something that we can win this game with that many mistakes
- Overby and Sowell really struggled, I think there were 5-6 catchable balls (not necessarily drops) that they didn't come done with that would have really changed the game
- I know this isn't a popular take, but i like the Hansen/Sama usage. Start with Hansen early, then run Sama at them for a while, then bring Hansen back to hammer the defense in the 4th quarter. They are going to have some big games coming up
- The muffed punt officiating was some of the worst I've ever seen. I didn't think the rest of the game was horrible, but that was VERY poorly handled

This is a huge Stat in my opinion. I did not realize that Rocco hasn't turned the ball over in 3 games. I love how he manages the game and takes what the defense gives him. That is why Campbell has so much trust in him. As long as he doesn't have some bone head throws like Purdy had, he will have the green light to changing plays. Brock Purdy was great, but Rocco is playing on a different level of game control. I hope he can keep this going.

The epic ball washing Chad Leistico and Scott Dochtorman has done for Iowa and Mark Gronowski is going to provide us with endless entertainment this year.

Between this and Chad’s “this really puts a dent in Iowa’s playoff hopes” - hook it into my veins all season.

I mean it, I would expect more objectivity out of fan sites than Doc gives. It’s embarrassing.
