As as Clone I have to agree with you. Iowa State's football program is not on the same level. Although the Clones have beaten Iowa 9 times in the past sixteen year a better overall program it does not make. Truthfully, I hate to see this game go. And I think if Iowa tries to back out of it they are chickens**t (Just like both Iowa and ISU basketball programs now won't play at the Knapp and McCloud). However, if the Big 10 does go to a 10 game conference schedule it only makes sense for Iowa to play schools outside a power conference to pat their schedules. In that sense it also doesn't make sense for Iowa State to play Iowa because odds are Iowa State will lose about 50 percent of the time. Pad the schedule with low level DI schools to better the chance of a bowl bid. I think all of that sucks, but, as John Prine said, "That's the way the world goes 'round."

This site is becoming more overrun by Hawk trolls (BlackHawk/Section110/hawkfan) on a daily basis, further evidence that Iowa is losing it stranglehold on this state. The trolls come to this site to make sure Iowa is being discussed over all other topics that have become more important to Iowa State fans now, since the hot topic is no longer Iowa as it was 20 years ago. There are some Hawk fans I respect on this site, guys like theantiairbhg and Clark, but almost all the rest of the Hawk fans on this site are trolls.
I wish we could play Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Mizzou, OU, OSU, every year. And UNI every other year.

Been on this website for awhile and have yet to see anyone(both sides) make an argument for getting rid of the series that isn't rooted in a fear of losing to the other team.
Its because there isn't one. It is the biggest sporting event in the state, and nothing comes close to it.

I ignore the Iowa team for 11 games of the year. I have no interest in anything they do and don't know a single player on the team. Which seems to make me like a typical Iowa fan....strangely enough

We need to drop this series so we can schedule mid-major teams to improve our chances to get to a 6-6 bowl game...

Just got through this whole thread and no one here has mentioned the reason this series will or will not continue, Money. For both teams this game is very lucrative on many fronts, most notably in ticket sales. It is a guaranteed sell-out with ****-load of extra people around contributing money into Ames and IC local businesses.
If the big 10 does go to 9 or 10 game conference schedule (which it likely will because Delaney is to fiscally intelligent to leave money on the table), it will be for an increase in television revenue and that's it. Not tradition, not superiority, revenue. If this were to happen and Iowa decides to cancel the series, it will be because the increase in revenue dollars is greater than the local AD impact and sentimental value of the series.
In addition to that, they will likely be looking to continue with scheduling non-con games which can be bought out as home games to offset the local economic loss sustained by removing ISU from the schedule. They also see the value in the perception of success, which leads to butts in seats and revenue.
The people making these decisions don't "fear" other teams, they fear an AD in the red and losing their jobs due to decreasing dollars. Play the numbers and it will lead you to the conclusion that if the B1G goes to 9 or 10, Cy Hawk probably goes away.

Great post, Pablo. This is exactly the reason this series goes away, if it does. For those of you who want the series continued, I'd be watching the B10 decision on number of conference games closely. If they go to 9, I think it continues. 10, bye-bye.
Your post doesn't mention hatred, hoks, clowns, previous 15 years, previous 30 years, Fry, Ferentz, Chizik, or Rhoads. Therefore it's invalid. :smile:
Other sellouts don't have the same atmosphere, for either school. The people saying they don't care about it are deluding themselves BECAUSE they care about it to a ridiculous degree, or if they truly don't care they're in a very tiny minority of football fans in the state.
If the conference schedules become too much, look for the series to switch to a one year on, one year off, before it goes away entirely.
When they play each other I care about it because the outcome determines who has to listen to smack talk for the next year. At work, with family, with friends, etc....
However, if they didn't play each other I really wouldn't care. It's a game. Some people take it wayyy too seriously. In some ways it would be kind of nice to have all of the crap talking go away for awhile. Most of it is senseless anyways.
The talking would never go away. Even if the game goes away, the constant **** measuring contest will go on forever.
It would be interesting to see what it would be like if both teams were good for a few years in a row. I think it could get some decent national attention. TV is always looking for ways to pump up the non-conference games.
Here you go... both football programs are nothing to write home about. Both programs are in the bottom half of their conference.
