MLB: Cubs Firesale

Ok, I have seen hatred from Cardinal and Hawk fans first hand and I can imagine that Packers fans might not be great if you are a Vikes/Bears fan. Are Heat fans really that bad? I would think up until this year that they would have been made fun of more than anything due to not winning with Lebron.

Sorry, I am derailing again.

I'm an *** hole.

maybe I'm bias living in central florida :)

You're thinking of 3rd basemen.

I will weep with joy if we do this.

I know that it sounds awesome... But I have to think that would be a mistake. People hear, Justin upton, and go wild thinking about how talented he is.

But in the long, slow, boring process of rebuilding, that is not the right move. The cubs need more young arms.

I thu j our future at OF has promise, Jackson, soler, scurzer, campana, Lahair, golden. As exciting as it would be, it would be equally near sighted

I don't want to leave any doubt here that I'm excited purely because he's a relatively big name with talent. Pure frontrunning on my part there, and the chance to see him pull out of his struggles in Chicago would be great.

I'm a big LaHair homer, and I love Campana's speed, but can they really get it done full-time. I know that LaHair was an All-Star, but hasn't be been struggling mightily?

Maybe Upton is a nice bridge while we wait for Soler and our 1st rounder to arrive.

To me it depends on how long they would have control of Upton.

I agree that we want to rebuild the farm system and have some home grown talent come up.

Good point just brought up, but the Cubs are probably not too concerned about getting rid of Soriano by the deadline today, as he would undoubtedly clear waivers.

Justin upton turns 25 in August and is signed through 2015. That is exactly the type of player you trade for if you can.

Campana should never be mentioned in anything dealing with promise. He's fast as can be, but he shouldn't see the field on a good team unless they need a pinch runner at the end of a game to steal a base. Is that really worth a roster spot?

The Cubs are going to need to find some production somewhere. Barney and Castro are a solid pair up the middle and Rizzo looks like the real deal. Getting rid of Reed Johnson and players like Campana is a step in the right direction.

If you can get Upton without losing much, you do it in a heartbeat. Get him for a couple years (cheap) and see what he can do.

I see all if your guy's points. And I agree. I agree that Justin upton is the kind of player you dream of signing for all the reasons. He's young, five tool, fairly versatile (?) and locked up long term. If they got that deal done, I would be thrilled.

But my point was that in the position the cubs are in right now, I would have think twice about that deal. I want to stockpile a group of young, talented, power arms for the rotation and pen down the road. Upton is in a class of about 5-50 some guys that are among the games most talented young stars. And acquiring a player like that is sweet to even think about.

Im just saying, he is also the epitome of the hyped up 18 year old. Now he's a major leaguer, 5ish years later, and he hasn't quite lived up to it. I'm not saying upton is a bust, but I'm saying that he might be. His offensive stats this year make me question his star status.

Dempster to the Dodgers appears to be all but dead. If Dempster is not dealt, I will not be happy! Im fine holding onto Garza, but not Demp.

I'd rather see the Cubs keep him and take the pick than deal him to the Dodgers for nothing. I would find it funny if the Dodgers get no pitching help.

Depending on what it cost, I would be cool with the Yankees landing Dempster. He can't be worse than Freddy Garcia. I'll sign for the league minimum and be on par with Freddy Garcia.
