Cord cutting options

But what is that article saying? Fubu will still be offered...Hulu + Live TV will still be offered...right? But one would be able to combine them? Which is cheaper how? Hulu + Live TV is about what YTTV already costs right?
For now.
Eventually they won’t want 2 platforms.

And so I think having two separate platforms today, obviously, it’s not ideal. We believe that there are synergies on the backend in areas like broadcasting and transmission, CDN, etc, but at the moment, I think we want to really focus on providing consumers with choice, and the Hulu product is really focused on providing a full entertainment bundle of sports news and entertainment, and Fubo will continue to focus on its sports first service, with the ability to launch skinnier sports bundles.”

So the only benefit to the consumer appears to be that the lawsuit filed by Fubo which halted the "skinny" sports package has been dropped. Or am I misreading that?
That’s true, and fubo will have some lower priced options with ESPN available.

Venu is vamoose.

I haven't kept up with the legal aspect of this, but this was the one I was kind of looking forward to. The significant sports channels without anything else. It would have been overpriced but all you basically need now in one spot. I'm sure it will get rolled into another more expensive option.

My first box died a couple years ago. Second one died last summer, third one died a month after. They no longer make or order them. They gave me this streaming box and it sucks badly. I'm done.

Our box has been acting up as of late, so we ordered another one. Takes about a week to ship. No techs have them in their trucks for the ready anymore, but you can still order a box.

I think in some ways it is good that it didn't work out. I am not sure that we want FOX and ESPN getting too chummy.

that's what it was for me. It was the last straw. Got a Roku and youtubeTV and my only regret was it was 4-5 years too late!

We have had good luck with mediacom over the years, and my wife likes tivo. If and when they no longer give us the option and we are forced to have one of their streaming boxes.......then it might be time for a change. But from the sounds of it they have a lot of boxes left that can be ordered.

So until then, one breaks........order a new one.

Are you my husband? We kind of have the same situation here. But when he points out how much I spend on TV entertainment (Mediacom, TIVO, and streaming channels) I just smile and say "let's talk about how much you spent on your two 3D printers and somewhere around 50 filament rolls!" My hobby is tv & movies, his is 3D printing - the cost of each is very similar. :D

I looked back through the last 4 pages and didn't see this specifically discussed - is there a consensus on the least cost way to make sure you have access to live ISU sports? I'm not a big fan of recording and watching later, and I don't really care about watching games that don't include ISU. Everything else we watch is already available on one of the streaming services we use, and we've only been keeping cable because of the easy access to live sports. ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ESPN... I know ESPN and FOX will stream live sports, either through subscriptions or apps we already have on our smart TV. What about the others?

My wife has already confirmed that all of her shows are available on the streaming services we already have. So live ISU sports is literally the ONLY thing preventing us from cutting the cord right now.

You could essentially get ESPN+ and have 98% of the remaining ISU basketball games. That would be.. $11.99, I think. There are a few games on CBS and CBSSN that you wouldn't get, but if you were paying for, say, Paramount+ you would be able to get those as well.

Football would be a little different, b/c usually games are on ESPN networks and Fox Networks so you'd need a way to stream the FOX games.

Superbox from Amazon. It has its limitations but all professional sports with no blackouts, UFC, all regional channels, movies, etc. One small box hooked to one TV and wireless to your router, $200 purchase with no monthly fees. Think of it as early satellite dish days.

Right now we're paying for both cable AND many streaming services. Disney bundle, Amazon Prime, Peacock, Paramount+, MAX... There's a fair amount of overlap too, as our cable package includes some of those services. When we moved to the west coast over 12 years ago I signed us up for a pretty high level cable package to ensure I could always watch ISU. Streaming wasn't really a thing then.

This is not correct. It looks like just over half of our remaining games are on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU networks. Network games are not included in an ESPN+ subscription. They can all be viewed in the same ESPN app, but you need both the Plus subscription and some sort of cable/satellite/youtubeTV subscription to have access to all of it.

Sling Orange with Sports Extra and ESPN+ should get you everything you need to watch ISU basketball and football unless they put it on BTN when they play Iowa. You'd have to add Sling Blue that month then drop it.

Here's a good search tool to filter streaming services by desired channels:

I dont disagree with you or your statment. It is weird that anyone has to figure out how all of this works, in every situation.

I tried Paramount+ and CBSN is not part of the app. Is it at a higher level of Paramount+? All I know is that I have paramount+ for one month because Google said it was part of the app and it turned out not to be and I couldn't get a refund.

I have Sling Orange/Blue and have had to add the Sport+ package to it for football. It does suck that Sling doesn't have locals on it. It's part of the reason I'm considering Hulu Live or YouTube TV next year, but just considering because those are $30 more a month.

I think CBSN is part of their app, but you have to have to log in with a television package to be able to watch it.

The sooner the packages die off, the better. I’m sick of paying for YTTV just to get ESPN. Sports are the only thing we watch on YTTV. Sitcom shows on the networks are awful now and the only channel with shows that I want to watch is FX, which I get with the Hulu subscription.
