The one thing that it took me awhile to get used to with YTTV is the Library/DVR. I like the ability for things to go away or I can delete them and they no longer show up until there is a new episode. So for example, I want to be able to delete the Formula One box and episodes until there are new ones next weeked. I want to be able to mark them as "watched" Screenshot 2024-11-04 140638.png

I just noticed that you can mark them as watched online. I don't think I can do this on the TV

Youtube TV has unlimited DVR, but the shows expire after 9 months. Everything is on the cloud, but it works just like a traditional DVR otherwise -- you can set single things to record, entire series, even something like all NCAA football games. Since it's unlimited (other than the 9 month time limit) it doesn't matter how much you set to record.
Mediacom has an "on demand" feature that we use to watch shows when there are weather breaks during programming, or timing issues due to overlong sports events causing the regular TIVO setting to miss all or part of the program.

If I DVR shows on network tv, can I FF thru the commercials like I do with TIVO recordings, or am I forced to watch them like with the On Demand feature on mediacom?

I think I'm the last person on earth to finally cut the cord but it's happening.

I just ordered the Roku 4k (got it $60 off!) and its arriving this weekend. Then I'm going to sign up for Youtube TV and take my mediacom equipment back next week.

I used to keep mediacom because they had games on CyclonesTV. Once that went away and now they don't have Tivo (basically any way to record) anymore, there's just no use for it
We're still using our TIVO...but it keeps resetting itself. Once I learned that you can record on the streaming channels I was sold. Just a matter of picking one.

Yes. YouTubeTV has an unlimited cloud-based DVR. Recordings are saved for nine months. If you add Iowa State football to your library, it should offer option to record all NCAA football, which I do because why not?

Record or remove programs

  1. Go to YouTube TV.
  2. Next to a show, sports team or event you want to record, tap Add
    qMZxtMTsGRBNqy3pSjetQhqnFPPQqmQQyY9qFXu8SHxa9nEqa35jVjiVnk9oJYELFPw=w36
. All current and upcoming airings will be recorded and added to your Library.
    • If you add a program to your library while an episode is in progress, your recording will start from the time you added the program. If a rerun of the episode airs, your partial recording will be replaced by a full episode.
  3. Next to a show, sports team or event you want to remove, tap Remove. All current and upcoming airings will be removed. Your recorded programs will be available until they expire.
Does YTTV adjust if the program is aired at a different time, say 20 minutes late?

On Hulu, if you actively DVR a show, you can fast forward commercials. If you stream a show from Hulu’s library, you can’t.

Yes, you can fast forward like a regular dvr. Often a show will also be able to be watched VOD (video on demand) and those have unskippable commercials. On YouTubeTV, you can pick the airing you want to watch, and VOD will show up as one of those "airings" if available.

My first box died a couple years ago. Second one died last summer, third one died a month after. They no longer make or order them. They gave me this streaming box and it sucks badly. I'm done.

What if you want something past 9 months? Often times I like to go back and watch old ISU games or a movie I recorded the year before ect.

Not possible on YTTV, or any other streamer I'm aware of. You will most likely have no trouble finding an on-demand version elsewhere.

Edit: The movie situation...If you add a movie to your list, it will record it each time it runs. So, unless it is something really obscure, you'll likely have a recording to watch after nine months.

The beauty of the cloud services. No control over anything.

I'm also still rocking my Tivo. I own the hardware and it is all locally controlled/managed in my house. And I have very few problems with it. Meanwhile, I spent 25 minutes trying to get ESPN+ up on the Roku. And I still can't watch delayed to skip commercials, or really pause and catch up later.

Do I have to have an external device to use YTTV, or can I program the app into my smart tv? I have chromecast devices attached to our TVs, but I HATE that itty bitty remote with its limited functionality.

Should be able to download the app, if it’s not already there, and use the TV remote.

I have a Visio TV in my garage. I access Hulu through the Visio interface and use the Visio remote. All other TVs in my house I access via Roku and use Roku remote or Roku remote app on my phone.

Yeah generally now with the Smart TVs, the TV-remote that comes with the TV can be easily setup to "just work" (and also control) the box itself, i.e. Roku, Apple TV, etc. Or yeah, the 'Remote' app(s) on your phone. Such a small thing in life but with kids around the house, its very nice to have 3/4 ways to control a TV, as they lose the first 2 remotes often.

I love YTTV but more competition is great.
Fubo appears to have carried Cubs Marquis channel so this may be really intriguing.
But what is that article saying? Fubu will still be offered...Hulu + Live TV will still be offered...right? But one would be able to combine them? Which is cheaper how? Hulu + Live TV is about what YTTV already costs right?

This sucks, this is less competition by merging 2 into 1. Fubo is pricey.
