Conspiracy!!1!

  1. Fred gets ready to leave for the NBA, so he and Pollard bring TJ back intending to set him up as the next coach.
  2. Leath decides he wants a big name hire, forces Pollard to use a search firm.
  3. Search firm "contacts" Hornacek, resulting in leak and FUBAR/SNAFU.
  4. Search firm is the same one used to hire Leath, selected by BoR/Branstead.
  5. Branstad is known to want to consolidate all state universities into a single system with different campuses. Started with AIB/UofI.

This is all a plot by Branstad to slowly choke out ISU athletics, which will make it easier to combine all three state universities into a singe university system. If ISU athletics are strong, he can't afford politically to blow them up. Football is playing its part, but MBB and the non-revenue sports aren't. If ISU MBB falls, then the rest of the AD quickly follows and ISU athletics can be quickly and quietly pushed into the UofI athletic department where big-revenue football is king.

Okay, let's for a second suspend the fact that you are insane and look at this theory objectively... Don't other states with consolidated university systems still have independent athletic programs on each of the individual campuses???

You aren't taking this far enough. Once the Branstache has consolidated all of the schools, he will drain funding from all campuses (save one), lowering enrollment, and by extension, reducing fan support. No fans = no money = no more athletics.

This makes at least as much sense as whatever Hornacek's agent was doing yesterday.

Can I subscribe to your newsletter?

So is the plan to lower enrollment to only western Chicago suburbian students to solve Iowa's Brain Drain problem of Iowan kids getting their education here and leaving?

Sure they do... Do you want Iowa State to become the next University of Nebraska - Omaha or University of Wisconsin Whitewater? I would prefer ISU not become a D-2 or D-3 athletics program.

This is really starting to make sense now. It wasn't Hornacek's agent, it was a professional Russian troll trying to destabilize the US - starting with a small Midwestern town. Planting the seeds of revolution in the most fertile soil in the world.
