Conference Prediction for ISU

Follow-up to my previous post ... even though I can believe an 8-10 floor for conference finish, I doubt we'll have more than 2 league losses at Hilton (KU/BU/WVa could do it, but I doubt all 3 will.

It's possible only one of those will do it. My primary guesses for other teams to steal one at Hilton would be (1) OSU and (2) possibly Tech, since Iowa State seems like it hasn't reached its stride yet and students are on break so atmosphere might not be an advantage.

When have we played good at lost in Hilton? If we play good against KU, WVU or Baylor at home we're winning

The probably is we don't play well every game in Hilton. There are a dozen examples of that over the last few years. So expecting us to play well every night THIS year in Hilton is not reasonable. For us or any team.

I don't expect us to play well in every game in Hilton this year. I do think we lose one conference game at home

I hope you're right. If we only lose one conference game in Hilton, then we'll probably be sitting pretty good, like 5ish seed.
However, I would call just losing one more in Hilton, a bold prediction. They're already 0-1 at Hilton, to turn that around and go 8-1 the rest of the way, very impressive.
And unless this team is total schizophrenic, if they're 8-1 at home, then they should be around .500 on the road, so that's either 12-6 or 13-5. Those records are good enough for second, maybe third, this year. That's very impressive.

I could see us going 8-1 at home and 3-6 on the road. 7-2 wouldn't completely shock me at home but 6-3 would for sure

Predicting 4 home losses or no NCAA tournament are both laughable IMO

They are all completely reasonable if you put any faith in kenpom, Massey, team rankings, etc.

ISU "lost" this game by 12.

I'm legitimately worried about losing to Texas Tech on Friday. Why?

6'6 Justin Gray 10ppg 6rpg
6'8 Zach Smith 12.5ppg 7.5rpg
6'8 Aaron Ross 12.3ppg 4.1rpg
6'8 Anthony Livingston 13ppg 5rpg
6'9 Norence Odiase just getting heathy.

That's five guys 6'6 or taller who are better than any one player taller than 6'5 that we put on the floor.

Those stats are not what bothers me. What bothers me is our guys looking at the name on the jersey, and assuming they have the game won before it starts. Tech, while down the last few years, has a decent chance of finishing in the Top 6 this year. I think they will be fighting OU for the 6 seed in the Big 12 tourney.

TT isn't a blueblood, and only bluebloods get posts that are not slow, stumbling, plodders. We'll have no issues with their frontcourt

Disagree. If we lose to Tech (and I said IF), it won't be because our team takes the name on front of their jersey lightly at all. It would be because they are better than us, period. This team got dominated by Iowa and struggled with Indiana State and Drake. I don't buy the notion that they will take any big12 team lightly.

I agree with this part, the "name on jersey" thing gets overblown. It seemed to get a lot of mention w/ the 2014-15 team, and maybe it actually was a hang-up with that group. I haven't seen every game this season, but watched all the non-cupcake games, and I didn't think lack of effort or focus or urgency was a big problem. Difficulty finishing in the lane, stagnation in half-court offense have been bigger issues.

My post received a couple of Disagrees ... and certainly accept the scrutiny.

For sake of discussion, were the disagreements more about this team not taking opponents seriously, or ISU's largest current limitations?
