CW, you don't need to be an apologist for hillbillies just because you grew up with them.
I spent an inordinate amount of time in the area SW of a line from Council Bluffs to Osceola. Though this is a generalization the area has a feel or identity to it as any in the state. Any that is not bad, though at times it could use a little understanding. And as far as "Hillbillism" goes South Central Iowa is more that.

It is common knowledge that Misery starts in the bottom two layers of counties in Iowa. The old saying goes: If you take the bottom two counties in Iowa and add them to Missouri, You would increase the I.Q. of both states by 20 points. As far as Bevins, some people like to be big fish in a little pond. Who know if after the pounding in the Big XII, he would be healthy enough to playing.

I had the misfortune of wandering into Davis County a time or two in my life. I'd be hard pressed to ever find a reason to go back.

He did very well in the national championship game yesterday. Glad for him as a person and no doubt well deserved. He is not a cyclone anymire as he left us...so he might as well be a hok as far as i am concerned.

Some of the Northern Iowa comments on here are hilarious. Like you Flat Landers have something besides the north wind to look at?! At least southern Iowa has hills, beauty, and character.

And as far as the bottom two counties are concerned, at least we can claim that our land was worth fighting for....the Honey Bee War was fought for the rights to those 2 counties. North Iowa, not so much:)

People that make fun of southern Iowa are smug, ignorant, and arrogant. We don't want you here, we will enjoy our rolling hills, trees, and good hunting and fishing, we don't need your approval.

Just a sidenote that my best friends at ISU were Northerners from Clear Lake and Traer, me the southern boy from Monroe. We both gave each other **** about our "accents", still do, and we are best friends today.

Don't blame him now for getting out of the **** storm that was cyclone football for the last three seasons.

What exactly was his reason for leaving again? It wasn't just homesickness, was it?

They were asking him to work harder than he wanted to in the off-season. That, combined with not being able to do the hunting, fishing, hanging out in Creston as often as he'd like is what I was told from a current player.
