Coaching Prospects

Here is the strategy I would explore with our next coach. Find a wildly successful and respected offensively minded high school coach in Texas, one that Texas recruits will listen to and hire him. He should be able to walk into any school in Texas and at least get the kids attention. Hire him a very good D-coordinator with a proven recruiting track record and see how it goes. We have the facilities to at least have some interest now with a supportive fan base.

Rich Rodriguez seems to be doing a fine job at Arizona. Wish we found someone like that.

Some guys demand a high salary and are a complete pain in the *** for their AD. I get the feeling that JP, right or wrong, is focused on a group of coaches that relate well to ISU fans and each other after the Chizik debacle. Nothing wrong with it, but you definitely narrow your pool of coaches before you even start.

I think he realizes his job is in jeopardy also.

Actually, CPR is in the catbird seat. Fired or not he is making bucks for awhile. If not fired he is paid close to a million a win. He also makes money if fired and sitting at home.

I agree that was the strategy that landed Rhoads the job. But hopefully the Rhoads debacle can help JP forget that strategy.

KU had to hire the Texas A&M WR's coach. start there, we aren't going to do much better than that kind of guy

I am sure JP has a list in his desk.

I have heard JP has been keeping in touch with Charlie Partidge, former ISU, Wisconsin, and Arkansas position coach who is in his first head coaching job at Florida Atlantic. Inherited a dumpster fire and trying for a turnaround in his second year.

This is the kind of fit that JP likes. A guy he knows, who's paid his dues, been around ISU and knows what it is all about here.

JP his terrible at coach hires. I still cant get over the fact that Kelly, Harbaugh and Briles all wanted the job and JP hired Chizik.
The only reason JP hired FH was cause his previous hire drove the program into the ground and no one else wanted the job. We will know in 3 years if Prohm was good hire or not.
Love JP amd hope hope he is at ISU forever but he sucks at coaching hires.

Yeah hiring one of the hottest coaches in the nation in what many considered a steal sure was a terrible idea.
Hindsight is 20/20, when will people stop beating this dead horse?

4 wins for sure.

What is "it" all about here, and wouldn't something different be logical route to take at this point?

I will be honest. At this point, I'll sign for anyone. If Charlie can get us some offense, I will back him. The first guy interviewed who has a detailed plan for our offense that doesn't involve doing what everyone else is doing is the guy who gets my vote. Be innovative. Be aggressive. If we lose, go down swinging.

Source needed. Brian Kelly was JP's choice for the job until his wife refused to move to Ames.

It's been fairly well documented that ISU essentially had their pick of Harbaugh, Kelly and Briles. CW had this in a podcast over the summer too.

I think this is why Briles tries to hammer ISU whenever he can, he holds a grudge.
