Coaching Carousel

Agreed. Here's an amazing thread.

Dave Doeren announces that he's turning them down to stay at NC State, and their fans are acting like it's a personal victory for them. It's not. Not being able to pull average coaches away from places that are supposedly inferior to their program is not a victory at all. It speaks volumes to how badly that situation is viewed right now.

Honestly, who else is out there that would take the job? Much less who would they accept that would take the job?

I kind of want the Tennessee AD to pull a 180 and announce that they're going to hire Schiano after all, just to see the reaction from the fans.

Your first mistake was assuming the majority of people from the south posess a rational thought process.

I'm not sure what they are cheering or why they are patting themselves on the back?
They act like they are saying no to these coaches. Uh, pretty sure they coaches are saying no to you.

Delusional doesn't even begin to describe these idiots.

That's the rub. The AD ceded the search to the fans as soon as he pulled Schiano's offer. And they're never going to get the coach they think they deserve. So even if the AD finds someone who does want the job there's no way the fanbase is going to go for it.

So now what? I maintain that the only way out of this mess now for the short term is to hire Tee Martin. Even if he flops there then at least it maybe appeases the fans by bringing home one of their own.

There were actually some posts on VolNation earlier this week that the only way the would accept Tee Martin on campus was if he apologized for something he did to the university 20-some years ago. I don't know if he bad-mouthed the university or a booster or what, but I know that there were a lot of posters that continued to hold a grudge against Martin.

Hah! You might say Tennessee is having a hard time finding a "volunteer" to be their new head coach.

LOL, the only thing he did 20 some years ago was win a national championship. Is he supposed to apologize for giving them a false sense of superiority?

Wow. Tennessee is terrible at keeping ANYTHING quiet. I guess their AD was at KSU, so it's not like he had to hire any football coaches except maybe hiring Bill Snyder back.

He really needed to take a page from JPs handbook. Do everything as quietly as possible so no one knows who's really a candidate until you've hired someone.

He might end up being their AD for less than one year. Is that some kind of record for a non-interim AD?

But he kind of did do that. He had his guy very early on in Greg Schiano. Where he ****** up was pulling that offer back solely due to public pressure. That was where the wheels came off.

yep. That was his big mistake in all this. Folding to the pressure was the worst thing he could have done. You can't show that little backbone. You still look bad, even to the people who agree with your decision.

Can anyone provide an updated list of people that have turned down TN? I can't keep up.

I'm trying to find the thread - now everyone over there wants Tee Martin. This must be part of their fan angst - here's an older thread from there where they are burying Tee Martin because he called Jalen Hurd "soft & weak" after the he committed to Tennessee.
