Coach Rogers Introductory Press Conference

Very good point. Again, I really appreciate what Heacock did and you can't deny it worked, but if I had to watch rushing 3 to give up a 3rd and 17 for another 5 years....

Giving up 3rd and long is a storied pastime for ISU football and if it continues I hope people come atound to it not just being scheme.

That said I hope a stingy/'cagey' defense is a foundation for Rogers.

Rogers is well-spoken, seems to have good judgment and has great passion and belief. He is winning the press conference. Makes me stoked for Cyclone Football!! Hope our players give him a chance!!
What it lacked in polish, was made up for in authenticity. I don't mind that he showed emotion, it was valuable based on how stoic he is. "RBF"...:D

AD opens a press conference to introduce new coach. Explains history of interacting with the coach and dynamic process involved in the hiring, short notice, arrangements, and that includes fighting weather. We seriously got people on here ******** that he thanked the snowplow driver and went into detail about all that before getting to the new coach. God sakes. As if any of that is out of the norm when introducing someone. Get a grip and lose the gripe. Unreal.

Most Leadership “experts” will tell you that you can stay at a job too long. You get complacent and lose your edge. I’ve heard 9-12 years max.
Yeah I know Bill Walsh & Theo Epstein thought 10 years and then time to move on.

When answering @ChrisMWilliams question about schemes, he spoke to the defense. Not much was said about offense. What kinda offense should we expect ?
He's a defensive guy - was the DC at SDSU during their first FCS championship. He's bringing his defensive staff with him, but it sounds like he's pulling in a new OC who will build the offense.

The rumored names are mostly younger - but I like the concept of bringing in a "Heacock" on the offensive side to own that side of the ball and innovate.

I would go so far as to say that MC's coaching ability was pretty average most of the time and most of his success here was due to being above average at exploiting a niche in player evaluation.

This ability is very much muted at a place like PSU, where finding pieces is never the problem. Finishing off games to achieve a B1G championship or win in the CFP is the skill needed most in Happy Valley. I can't say yet how that will go.

Hopefully CJR can be as good at evaluating while raising the floor on coaching a little bit. I think he's a good hire.

For Big 12 perception Tech and BYU need AMAZING X&Os coaches in both major sports.

We've got just two who have unlimited cash like the top B10/SEC schools and they have to win big. In basketball AZ and Kansas as legacy bluebloods or near blueblood are in there too. It's just random if a school has a weird billionaire who choses to do this as a hobby.

Thought it was a great presser. He recruited one of my sons while he was at SDSU. We were very impressed with Coach Rogers on the visits. You can feel his intensity when he's speaking and he is a straight-shooter which we appreciated. It was actually good to see this side of him during the press conference. I think ISU football is in great hands.

Two observations.
1. When he talked about focus on player relationships and development versus scores, it reminded me of when I coached. I still remember the shocked looks on parents faces when I said the focus would be on things we can control - conditioning, skills and execution - versus the score. But it’s 100% true. If the players have those three things the wins will come.
2. He said what I wanted to hear about bringing staff, continuity, building relationships, etc. Some might say it’s coach speak, but again the continuity of who he works with is critical. He was also honest about the impact on what players stay/leave with the change in defensive/offensive philosophy.

Initial reaction? I’m positive.
Not really a reply to your post, but this article is about CJR's mentor, Coach Stiegelmeier who is a legend in Brookings. Reminds me a bit of Coach Heacock. Old school coaches that
football players love & would do anything for them.
