Coach Rogers Introductory Press Conference

Will be interested to see what the next scheme is defensively. Sounded to me like trying to disguise and push the opposing offense more instead of sit back and wait for them to make mistakes. Either can work, but our roster now is definitely catered toward the latter. If you want to push and force the issue of mistakes, you need tighter/riskier coverage, you need more pass rush and more blitzers, etc. I would expect to see an overhaul of LB/DL rooms in particular if this is the case. The DB room for the most part is probably fine to fit either scenario, depending on who all comes back of course, but that front six group is not set up now to be pressure-oriented.

As for us fans, if they go this way, it'll look very different to us. We'll have to accept trading big plays for big play busts at times -- that's football in this scheme type. Get some of that watching the Vikings D in recent years -- super heavy on big plays and forcing issues, lots of exotic D looks and pressures, but also leads to occasional busted plays and mistakes even at the NFL level.
Paging @CoachHines3 mom....

What attitude plays well when you are unsuccessful?
I'm more saying people are more willing to give the "oh shucks" guy the benefit of the doubt than the no ******** guy. Rogers isn't getting the "but he's a nice guy" line of defense.

I could have used at least 100 more, "yeah you know"'s... but it was ok.
Probably a little nervous. Understandable. But he won me over with “I didn’t come here to lose.”

I will always love CMC. Always.

With that said. Full support to CJR. Love what he's said so far. I really, really think if things go ideally the way he wants, he could continue something very special here.

I love and appreciate what Heacock did for us at ISU, but I can't tell you how excited I was to hear the words "4 man front" and "agressive and attacking" on defense.

Heacock started with a 4 man.

Changed it based on what would neutralize things and overall it was very successful if ran well like anything else.

He'll probably run with 4 at PSU if he's there.

I’d venture to guess Campbell won’t spend the rest of his career at PSU. And Roger’s won’t spend the rest of his career here. And Kiffin won’t spend the rest of his career at LSU or DeBoer at Bama, etc. etc.

The only coach I’m confident will retire at their current job right now is Ferentz honestly.
Most Leadership “experts” will tell you that you can stay at a job too long. You get complacent and lose your edge. I’ve heard 9-12 years max.

Very good point. Again, I really appreciate what Heacock did and you can't deny it worked, but if I had to watch rushing 3 to give up a 3rd and 17 for another 5 years....
