Coach Nate Schmidt

I just want him to give a debate. Instead of just dumbing people
Or doing the laughing emoji, debate it like the rest of us do. That wall. Become a good poster on this site that has opinions. Nothing wrong with that
Understood. Maybe as simple as a "rough and frustrating week."

It's all Nate Schmidt's fault that Jefferson doesn't know how to pass it out when he's triple teamed in the paint so he dribbles off his foot instead. Also his fault that Buchanan is weak on the boards. All his fault that Toure is having a bit of a freshman hangover offensively and that Lipsey is clearly not 100%. His fault as well that Nelson can only drive to the rim because he can't make a basket from more than 3 feet from the rim. Oh and lastly it's all Nate Schmidt's fault that Milan only shot 8-14 from 3 instead of 14-14.

Man, that nate schmidt guy sounds like a real fuckup

If we can't get turnovers from Toure, then I'd like to see a lineup, even if just for a few minutes of Batemon and Momcilovic...maybe to give us more offensive punch. We have NO ONE other than Momcilovic to consistently hit from the outside. They have to move the basketball and get everyone involved. Even then, they have to hit their shots when they present themselves.

The 84 and the 79 are a bigger problem IMO
They're directly related problems. Offense has too many turnovers and rebounds given up, opponent gets up more shots (and also tends to rebound too many of their own shots). We're around 70 points given up from turnovers since conference play started alone.

the fact is some teams are going to figure out this defense and score at a good rate on us. To be really good, you have to be able to win any means, if the D is not working then you have to have to the ability to score with the other team. I didn't like our half court offense yesterday. It was basically ISO ball or Milan or bust. But the defensive rebounding yesterday was also an issue. They had way more shots on goal than we did.

That's kind of the problem for us on both ends, really -- we only have one gameplan. Offense expects to win 1:1 a lot of the time to generate points... very little in the way of a backup option after that. Defense expects to win with blitzes and force turnovers... no backup plan there either (we actually did have a short stint of zone D yesterday, but it didn't make much of a difference).

We have a good roster of talent, but are seriously limited in ways to use it.

So, is it a coaching issue?
One day it's "sign TJ to a lifetime contract"
The next day it's "TJ can't coach"
I'm hoping this funk is correctable...and soon.

The issue is many fans have in their heads that we have this pedigree of greatness when I reality we are actually better then an average ISU team. People need to relax and enjoy what we got. Many schools would love the success we have.

I tend to think it's an assistant coaching issue, since they tend to be the ones doing the in-game scheming, as far as I can tell by watching them.

There may be another component with conditioning/practice overdoing it, but we don't really know that for sure.

Assistant coaches work at the behest of the head coach. And it's not like this is Schmidt's first year at ISU. So ISU's offense is TJ's vision.

Where is this issue and how are you coming to this conclusion? You think folks coming to a public sports message board to discuss how their team is playing is somehow indicative of a group of people who believe in a false history of success? Iowa State fans!? Are you f***ing serious?

Many schools would love the success TJ has had. Just like everyone here loves the success TJ has had.
Many fans would enjoy this season. Just like everyone here is enjoying the season.
Just relax. huh? What!? Why? We all love Iowa State sports. That is literally why we are here. For 4+ years now (combined with 5 years of Freddy) have watched our program go from average to nationally relevant! That is really cool and really fun. In the last 3 months alone, you literally cannot turn on a College Basketball podcast or show without a mention of Iowa State, without a mention of how good of program and coach we have, etc. CBS Sports, Field of 68, along with every analytics, CBB Twitter metrics/analytics guru, etc. - have talked glowingly about Iowa State as a legit Final Four contender. Just like they did when we were a 2 seed a few years. Just like they did when we were ranked #2 in the AP poll just last year, and again this year. That is not 'average' - that is awesome. We have gotten so relevant nationally, that when we lose a couple games badly, these same podcasts and analytics - folks speaking to a national audience - dedicate entire segments to discuss it. That is nuts.

So yeah, forgive Cyclone fans for being freakishly passionate about having a really awesome program to follow, which very much includes getting frustrated when the team and coaches go through crappy funks, and discussing what needs to change, how can things can back on track, will we (and how can we) get back to being the team that proved it was among the best in the country just a short while ago, etc.

Get out of here with that stupid a** self-righteous "relax" bullsh*t.
