Terrible movie such a disappointment.

An insight about how individuals view different works. It scared the bejammers out of me, which, in my opinion, made the movie a powerful art work. That you did not like the film makes me curious.

I can't be the only one who thinks Christmas Vacation is wildly overrated. It's not even the best of the Vacation movie series.

Well I can highlight some main points why I didn't like it. I don't go to movies often and most of the time it's only for horror movies, so this plot got me interested in it.
  • I hated the family, every single person in it and I was rooting for them to die. I feel like to make a good horror movie you need to have likable victims. It's hard to get scared and worried about a character if you are hoping for them to get stabbed in every scene.
  • The family also made very stupid decisions. Name me one couple that would let there daughter walk outside during a white out blizzard to walk a few blocks to go see her boyfriend? I grew up in Minnesota where people got out of their cars during a blizzard and died 30ft away from the car trying to walk to pay phone. At the same time I felt like they made characters do dumb things just to move the plot along. It just felt like the writers decided they needed to kill off a character, so lets just have them wander off on their own to find a way to get killed.
  • Very predictable horror plot line. There wasn't any real twist on the story that made it stand out vs the thousands of other horror movies I've seen.
  • I feel like it should've been made as an R rated movie. The Pg-13 rating may of held it back.
  • cool setting but it was just a home invasion movie.

I'll back you on this. Although part of it is when I first saw it, I was pretty burned out with Chevy Chase. There was SNL, then the original Vacation(much better IMO), Spies Like Us, Caddyshack, Fletch, Three Amigos, Funny Farm.

I didn't hate the movie by any means, but I always thought it got a little too much love. There were some great lines, but Chevy's delivery had worn on me a bit.

My faves, in no order:

It's a Wonderful Life
Mixed Nuts
The Family Stone
Love, Actually
Christmas Story
Nightmare Before Christmas
The Ref

This is my favorite Christmas movie of all time.

It's a Wonderful Life is probably the best Christmas-spirit story, Elf is best for kids, and Love Actually is best ensemble performance. But Scrooged is just amazing.

I also am sort of meh on Christmas Vacation. It's not awful, but it is sort of like Caddyshack and Blues Brothers in my opinion - they are both mildly funny and have some great one-liners, but nostalgia has made them bigger than they actually are.

I'm still so glad that you recommended The Family Stone to me last year on Facebook, and that you reminded me of The Ref. I went on a tear last year and watched all of them, and it was great. I forced my husband to watch Love, Actually, and he used the phrase "not terrible." So I guess that's a win!
