Cannonball Run: COVID-19 style.

You definitely have to pick the right cars. I remember back in the late 90s when I was at a dealership and usually knew the top end of most vehicles. Firebirds were 115 and Avengers were 119. Couldn't get anything over that. Never had a mustang hit though.
My dad was never shy about going fast. We had a mid-sixties four door (suicide doors) Thunderbird. He buried the 120 mph speedometer on more than one occasion with all 7 of us in the car. I remember a kid in a Camaro blowing around us one time. My dad floored it and passed him back at over 100 mph on a county road. Us little kids waved at him out the back window as we dropped him.

It wouldn't be a good candidate for the cannonball, though. At about 10mpg you would spend too much time refueling.

By the way —

I just put two and two together the guy who set the record in the Mustang did it solo.

Solo has usually been a separate category that is slower than the team attempts.

That makes it all the more crazy.
