Campustown Question

The old Battles location when George himself was there was amazing. Jazz/blues always playing, barn-plank wood walls, the bbq and Texas toast was amazing, and a glass of lemonade that was perfectly sweetened. Phenomenal place.
Back in the day it was so, so, so phenomenal.

Excuse me Miss Pharmacist, what are the piano beer specials tonight?
Also, what time does Kountertop take the stage? Oh not until 10? We'll I'm going to head to the basement for a few quarter draws until then, and by a few, I mean a few trays worth.
Lumpy's baby....Lumpy's. Smells like piss and stale beer, stick to the floor, what is on that couch? HEAVEN.

Watch out for that first step off the Lincoln Way sidewalk down. It was like double tall and a doozy.
How more people were not killed or seriously injured it beyond me.

Take me back to the good ole days....

I still shed a tear every time I see a CVS standing where the immortal People's once stood.

What goes around comes around - my freshman and sophomore years it was a freaking drug store! Peoples Drug always had the best deals on Milwaukee's Best. IIRC, quite a few people were pissed when Peoples Drug closed because of how convenient it was. Of course we all quickly realized what an awesome bar it ended up being.

That little place is one of my fondest memories. I went there all the time. Night exams for all those 1st/2nd-yr engineering courses? Battles's was "last meal" before execution.

Since they only took cash, one time I had forgotten and said at the counter, "Ope - hold on I'll run to that little ATM across the street and come back" and the guy working (I think it was George's son but I may be making that up) picked up the bag, winked at me, and said "Nah, don't worry - we take care of our own". I then felt like a true resident of Ames and ISU.

I would use almost a whole bottle of sauce just on the Ruffle Chips and Texas Toast!! Hell, the sauce was so good, I could almost drink it!! Lemonade was awesome. Still wish I could get the sauce at Hy-Vee!

I used to park in the residential area behind the student government lot, just so I could have the pleasure of walking past Battles and the smells. Ohhhhhh, the smells! And, then on Friday afternoons treat myself to some brisket and lemonade! God, I miss battles(the old battles)!

A case of Dubuque Star in bottles for about $4.79.

Yes, I'm old. (My age has been adjusted for inflation).

I haven't been back in a while, so was trolling google street view. The most amazing thing is that Copyworks is still there - per streetview. WTF - that's still a thing?

In high school we would go to the old Battles location (Hayward ave I think?). Amazing stuff

Did anybody go, or is anybody going, on the People's Cruise? Several of the old bands are playing/played on the cruise including the Nada's. When I saw the ad for it I had stated "I have seen how I die, and what a glorious way to go."

Edit: IT'S MARCH 1st, 2020! We idiots thought it was this year!

What what what? The People's Cruise? This sounds like something the Rock would be promoting. Is this a real thing?
