in part, because caring about reaching 6-7 and basing your worth and your program's worth on that measure is ********. And at the same a 7 win season or 6, may not always be a failure.

I am not criticizing players and coaches individually. We have had ample opportunities to win. We have made mistakes. From coaches to players. Campbell will handle it. What if? In all scenarios Campbell will be Head Coach. Campbell will decide his Staff. That is what will happen. No need to speculate.

It does put millions of dollars in the pockets of "experts" though.
We aren't supposed to question them or demand results though, because it is way more important to have your football program be concerned with being a character builder than it is to provide entertainment and victories for the fans.
"Honor Before Victory" but in another post you say Campbell was a better coach than Earle Bruce because he won bowl games and Bruce had it easy because he had four non-conference games a year?
I think I understand where you are coming from. I will summarize:
1. Matt Campbell wins games he is better coach.
2. Matt Campbell loses games but emphasizes "Honor Before Victory" he is a better coach.
3. Matt Campbell is our coach and we will have unwavering faith in his mandated path to success. He is a better coach.
4. Matt Campbell does not practice cronyism like Kirk. He is a better coach.
5. If you make any sort of observation that does not support Matt Campbell as being a better coach, you are a Hawkeye fan. It does not matter if you have been a Cyclone fan for half a century.
I give you a lot of credit on the other hand. That kind of fanatical support is what people look for in any sort of relationship.
I have also said in numerous posts I like Matt and I want him to succeed. However, I violated mandate #5 on a few occasions.
Both Bruce and Campbell epitomize Honor Before Victory. Bruce had a great team culture. I saw it firsthand. And the grumbling that Earle should be fired after the third straight 4-7 season. Earle didn’t know how to run an offense. Lots of the same grumblings. Earle was a great coach. IMO Campbell is a bit better.

Campbell is one of the biggest college names I suspect would get consideration for the job. He was raised in the Big Ten footprint, as a Massillon, Ohio, native who starred at Mount Union before getting the Toledo job, where he was excellent, going 35-15. He took a tough job in Ames and led Iowa State to its best season ever, finishing No. 9 in 2020. The last two seasons Iowa State has tailed off, going 11-14, but folks inside the football world know just how good a coach he is. He’s still only 43. He’s had chances to leave ISU before, but this is a Big Ten job. Would he be tempted? We’re not sure. Would he be able to recruit better there? I’d imagine that their admissions standards are higher and their admissions offices are more strict. And you probably play what, 8/9 away games an year? Also, by getting rid of divisions, it’s not like they’re going to be in the west.
Also, doesn’t Campbell have something in his contract that says if Iowa State raises admissions standards his buyout goes to zero?
